The 2022 Crunchyroll Awards have come and gone, but there can only be one winner, and this year that anime is Attack on Titan.
Attack on Titan: The Final Season‘s part 1 takes home the big prize of Anime of the Year, beating out shows like 86 Eighty-Six, Sonny Boy, and the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen — whose first season was last year’s Anime of the Year winner. Overall Attack on Titan took some major awards, including Anime of the Year, Best Opening Sequence, and Best Antagonist. It did not however sweep the podium, as both Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen took more awards overall — four apiece not counting voice acting performance — creating a clear top three anime for Crunchyroll’s voters this year. If any of these shows are on your to-watch list voting acclaim ought to raise their priority, if the fear of spoilers hasn’t.
Sorry shippers and romance fans, but there was no award for best couple this year. I don’t know why the Crunchyroll Awards took away the category, but the part of me that likes watching ships burn (and sometimes be fulfilled) is disappointed. Then again, Komi didn’t win Best Girl, so I’m not sure my angst could also take seeing a ship I liked nominated and then lose (please don’t flame me, I have nothing against the actual Best Girl winner, I just haven’t watched Jujutsu Kaisen).
