Attack on Titan has always been one to break the mold when it comes to what to expect, and the upcoming final season is absolutely no exception to that.
On Thursday, September 24th, it was announced via Twitter that Attack on Titan: Final Season will premiere on Japanese television and Funimation (both dubbed and subbed) on December 7th, 2020. Are you counting down the days yet?
Originally a manga created by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan started serializing in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in September 2009 and has been collected into 32 volumes in Japan as of September 2020. Kodansha has been releasing the manga in English and describes the story as:
A century ago, the grotesque giants known as Titans appeared and consumed all but a few thousand humans. The survivors took refuge behind giant walls. Today, the threat of the Titans is a distant memory, and a boy named Eren yearns to explore the world beyond Wall Maria. But what began as a childish dream will become an all-too-real nightmare when the Titans return and humanity is once again on the brink of extinction …
The first anime adaptation produced by WIT Studio started airing in 2013, which led to a long wait for fans as the second and third seasons didn’t air until 2017 and 2018, respectively. The series has also seen several spinoff anime produced including Attack on Titan: Junior High and the prequel Attack on Titan: No Regrets.
