One series set to premiere next month that not nearly enough people are talking about is the fantasy isekai Ascendance of a Bookworm (or Honzuki no Gekokujō). That changes today!
On September 10th, a brand new promotional video that lasts almost two full minutes was released on the Internet, along with the news that the series will see its premiere on October 2nd. In the video, viewers are introduced to the various characters and the world they inhabit.
Originally a light novel series written by Miya Kazuki, illustrated by Yō Shiina, and published on the author site Shōsetsuka ni Narō from September 2013 to March 2017, Ascendance of a Bookworm began physical publishing through TO Books in January 2015. It is currently being translated and published in English by J-Novel Club who describes the story as follows:
A certain college girl who’s loved books ever since she was a little girl dies in an accident and is reborn in another world she knows nothing about. She is now Myne, the sickly five-year-old daughter of a poor soldier. To make things worse, the world she’s been reborn in has a very low literacy rate and books mostly don’t exist. She’d have to pay an enormous amount of money to buy one. Myne resolves herself: If there aren’t any books, she’ll just have to make them! Her goal is to become a librarian. This story begins with her quest to make books so she can live surrounded by them! Dive into this biblio-fantasy written for book lovers and bookworms!
The anime adaptation was first announced on March 7th, 2019, and will feature animation produced by Ajia-do Animation Works. The director is Mitsuru Hongo, who will be working off series composition created by Mariko Kunisawa. The series is slated to run for fourteen episodes.
