One of the arguably best isekai of the last couple of years is coming back… again!
According to a post on the official Twitter account, the adorable isekai Ascendance of a Bookworm has been green-lit for a third season. No release date or further information was revealed, but please stay tuned to J-List as we will no doubt keep everyone informed as new information is released. Trust me, this is a series that is absolutely worth keeping your eyes on.
The anime adaptation of Ascendance of a Bookworm was first announced back in March 2019. The animation is produced by studio Ajia-do Animation Works and features Mitsuru Hongo as the director working off scripts written by Mariko Kunisawa. The second season was announced soon after the completion of the first and started airing in spring 2020, featuring the same cast and crew.
The light novel series was formally released in collected volumes in 2015 in Japan and released its 23rd volume in June 2020. J-Novel Club is currently releasing the volumes in English on their website.
Crunchyroll simulcast the first season of Ascendance of a Bookworm as it aired (and also produced an English dub for the series) and describes the story as:
Avid bookworm and college student Motosu Urano ends up dying in an unforeseen accident. This came right after the news that she would finally be able to work as a librarian like she had always dreamed of. When she regained consciousness, she was reborn as Myne, the daughter of a poor soldier. She was in the town of Ehrenfest, which had a harsh class system. But as long as she had books, she didn’t really need anything else. However, books were scarce and belonged only to the nobles. But that doesn’t stop her, so she makes a decision… “If there aren’t any books, I’ll just create some.”
