Love makes fools of us all, and anime has proven this more than once. An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride (Maou no Ore ga Dorei Elf wo Yome ni Shitanda ga, Dou Medereba Ii?) shows what happens when a powerful sorcerer falls in love with a cute elf girl. He’s an expert magician, but he’s still new to romance. We’ll see how he does when the series premieres sometime in April 2024. We can enjoy this new trailer until then.
Fuminori Teshima and COMTA released their original An Archdemon’s Dilemma light novel on February 1st, 2017. Hobby Japan has since published seventeen volumes in the HJ Bunko imprint.
Our Archdemon, his elf bride, and their holy knight friend are as follows:
- Zagan — Yusuke Kobayashi (Dino from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime). A remarkably powerful Archdemon who instills fear in others. He used a vast chunk of his fortune to purchase an elf at auction because he fell in love with her at first sight.
- Nephelia “Nephy” — Kana Ichinose (Suletta Mercury from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury). A high elf slave who was captured by humans. She was taken as part of the Archdemon Marchosias’s assets and was sold at auction.
- Chastille Lillqvist — Hana Hishikawa (Additional voices from Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie). A member of the Angelic Knights who wields the Sacred Sword Azrael. Her views on sorcerers change after Zagan saves her life.

An Archdemon’s Dilemma or How to Romance Your Elf
This story begins like many great romance tales: a dark sorcerer buys a girl at an estate auction. Zagan attends an auction selling off the former Archdemon leader Marchosias’s assets, and it saves high elf Nephelia for last. Those in attendance believe her to be the key to true power. Zagan proceeds to bid most of his fortune to win Nephelia when he had planned not to buy anything. He bought her not for her power but because he fell in love with her at first sight.
Zagan takes Nephelia back to his castle and proceeds to do anything he can to make her happy and comfortable. However, he’s awkward and has never experienced true love before. This is just one hurdle Zagan and Nephy will have to overcome. The rest involve powerful Archdemons and holy knights who aim to manipulate or destroy them.
