Amazon Kindle Removes Several Manga & Light Novels

With current events closing bookstores, libraries, and making online shopping and shipping a hassle, more and more people are turning to digital means to get their manga and light novel fixes. Whether that means signing up for official manga apps from publishers like Viz Media or Kadokawa, or using your phone or tablet’s app store, there’s no shortage of places to get your light novel and manga fix digitally.

Eromanga Sensei Pout about Amazon Kindle

One app that’s made that significantly harder in recent months, however, is Amazon’s Kindle Store. Specifically, they’ve removed manga and light novel titles from publishers J-Novel Club, Yen Press, and Dark Horse Comics in the past few months. Titles that have been removed from the Kindle Store include, among others:

  • Oriemo (Manga)
  • Eromanga Sensei (Manga)
  • No Game, No Life (Light Novel)
  • I Shall Survive Using Potions! (Manga Vol. 1-3, Light Novel Vol. 1-4)
  • Clockwork Planet (Light Novel Vol. 1-4)
  • How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord (Light Novel Vol. 3, 6-8, 10)

While the publishers in question have since contacted Amazon, the company gave no specific reason as to the removal, only citing that Yen Press’s titles did not fall within their global content guidelines. This is especially odd, seeing as physical copies of the titles are available on the Amazon website, with digital copies still available through Amazon Japan. Amazon has not yet resumed sales of any of the manga or light novels it removed and instead has opted to remove even more titles from the Kindle Store, including Mixed Bathing in Another Dimension Vol. 5, Lazy Dungeon Master Vol. 8, and Wild Times with a Fake Fake Princess Vol. 1.

While this situation continues to be a disappointment for Amazon Kindle readers and publishers alike, it’s always good to know that there are other ways and places to get a hold of your favorite titles and still support the affected publishers, such as here at J-List.
