I know that I’m not the only one excited about the final season of Fruits Basket, premiering in April!
Exactly like during the gap between seasons one and two, Funimation has posted a subtitled promotional video on their YouTube account which recaps the second season and shows some footage from the upcoming third season, including the big truth behind Akito!

Now, if you’ll allow me, let’s talk about that final season footage because, holy crap. To put this into context, I’ve never completed the Fruits Basket manga. It’s on my list for sure, but I’ve just never gotten around to actually finishing it so all of this information is pretty new to me.
The big revelation with Akito answers a lot of questions that I’ve had since the beginning of the series. However, it’s my belief that while the big reveal about them is certainly going to play a significant role in the final season, revealing it now is actually more of a distraction tactic than anything else.
Since the beginning of the series, the character that I’ve had my eye on the most is Shigure, who seems to always know more than he’s letting on. He has masterfully worked the characters into the exact positions that he wants them and is now just sitting back and waiting for the plan to work. I’m feeling pretty strongly that even though Shigure only appears for a small amount of time in the final season footage, the events that we do see from him are going to be much more significant to the story than Akito’s gender identity.
I still do not have any real theories about how the series is going to end, but I’m sincerely hoping that after the emotional storms that season two put fans through, it’d be nice to see some clear skies on the other side.
