It’s been a crazy latter half of August! Many studios announced new anime adaptations over the last couple of weeks! Let’s take a look.
NEW ANIME – WITCH WATCH HEADS TO ANIME ADAPTATION LAND!
- First up in this category is the BL romantic comedy Go for It, Nakamura! (Japanese title: Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!!). Nakamura, the main character, is a closeted high school student who has a crush on his childhood friend. The series ran in Opera magazine from 2014 to 2016 before Seven Seas Entertainment licensed it for an English release in 2018. [Comic Natalie]
- Details are scarce, but studios Titmouse and Polygon Pictures have announced a partnership to produce multiple CG animated series. They plan to release more details later this year. [Anime News Network]
- Attack on Titan will return for one last gasp this November. According to reports, the movie will combine the final parts of the television series into one movie. No word on if or when the film will see an overseas release, but stay tuned for more details as they are revealed. [Otakomu, Crunchyroll News]
- The Shonen Jump manga series Witch Watch will get an anime adaptation in 2025! Bibury Animation will produce the anime, which will star Rina Kawaguchi (Nico) and Ryota Suzuki (Otogi). From my perspective, this announcement from the last couple of weeks excited fans worldwide the most, which makes it worth keeping your eyes on. [Comic Natalie]
- Getting away from manga for a second, the light novel series Chitose-kun is in a Ramune Bottle from author Hiromu is also getting an anime adaptation in 2025. [Eiga]
- Manga series With You and The Rain about a woman and her strange pet (is it a dog? Who knows?) will get an anime adaptation in 2025. Unlike the other announcements, no further details were revealed for this adaptation. [Anime Eiga]
- Another manga series getting adapted to anime is the freestyle dance series Wandance from author Coffee. What’s interesting about this adaptation is that the dance choreography is being designed by RIEHATA (who has worked with supergroups like BTS) while the animation is to be produced by Madhouse and Cyclone Graphics. The idea of Madhouse producing a dance series has intrigued me to the max already! [Comic Natalie]
- Uma Musume is back, baby! The Cinderella Grey story will get an anime adaptation, according to the announcement posted via X (formerly Twitter)! [Otakomu]
- Wrapping up this section, dark fantasy comedy A Wild Last Boss Has Appeared will get an anime adaptation according to the announcement made during Anime NYC. No other details were made available at press time. Initially a self-published light novel series, the franchise made its professionally published debut in 2016 and ran until 2019. The series is also available in its entirety in English on J-Novel Club. [AnimeAnime.jp]
LIVE ACTION
- The gay manga series Smells Like Green Spirit is headed for a live-action drama later this year starring Araki Hiba. The live-action series will air on Japanese networks starting in September 2024. This is an interesting choice for a live-action adaptation since the series is over a decade old. [Comic Natalie]
SEQUELS – DR. STONE FINALE ADAPTATION TO RUN FOR THREE COURS!
- Dr. Stone is returning in 2025 for another season! Not only that, but it’s scheduled to run for three consecutive cours! This will be the last season, so if you want to see how this one ends, add it to your “plan to watch” queue now! [Comic Natalie]
THEATER PRODUCTIONS – YUKI YUNA GETS AN ANNIVERSARY PROJECT
- Haikyuu!! is getting a sequel stage production in May 2025. [Spice]
- Speaking of sequels, fans also get a stage sequel to the hit manga series Kageki Shoujo in December 2024. [Anime News Network]
- To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the magical girl series Yuki Yuna is a Hero will get a stage adaptation in October 2024 in Saitama. [Anime News Network]
