Not all isekai stories let the protagonist enjoy life in easy mode. That’s not the case in I’m a Noble on the Brink of Ruin, So I Might as Well Try Mastering Magic (Botsuraku Yotei no Kizoku dakedo, Hima datta kara Mahō wo Kiwamete Mita). A regular guy from Japan had his night at the bar cut short when he awoke in the body of a nobleman in another world. His new family might be close to ruins, but that won’t stop him from having fun. We’ll see how he does when this anime series premieres sometime in January 2025.
Nazuna Miki posted the original I’m a Noble on the Brink of Ruin, So I Might as Well Try Mastering Magic novel in Shosetsuka ni Naro on September 7th, 2019. TO Books obtained the publishing rights and hired the artist Kabocha to adapt the series to a light novel format. This new run began on February 10th, 2020, in the TO Bunko imprint. The manga adaptation with art by Rio Akisaki first appeared on February 3rd, 2020. Likewise, eight volumes are currently available to read.
Our newest isekai protagonist and two of the cute girls who follow him into battle are as follows:
- Liam Hamilton — Ayumu Murase (Kotetsu from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). An average Japanese guy, now living in Liam’s body. His primary goal is merely to enjoy his new noble’s magical life.
- Asuna — Haruka Tomatsu (Lala Satalin Deviluke from To LOVE-Ru). A bright and cheerful girl who works for the guild. She happily joins Liam’s party to complete quests.
- Jodi — Saori Hayami (Oyuki from Urusei Yatsura (2022)). A kind and thoughtful girl who works for the guild. She happily works alongside Liam to clear quests.
Studio Deen and Marvy Jack have maintained a home page and a Twitter (X) page to promote I’m a Noble on the Brink of Ruin, So I Might as Well Try Mastering Magic. You can find more series information and the key visuals there. Take note of the typical isekai harem waifus and large dragon in the background.
What Else Can I Do? I’m a Noble on the Brink of Ruin, So I Might as Well Try Mastering Magic
An average Japanese man had the strangest wake-up call after a night of drinking. He awoke in the body of a young nobleman named Liam Hamilton in another world. Liam is the fifth child and part of the Hamilton family’s fourth generation. In this world, nobles can maintain their titles for only three generations. If the third generation has not attained a great achievement, the fourth generation loses their nobility. The Hamilton family has thus far not accomplished anything worthy of praise. Even if some consider them the oldest nobles, they could lose everything sooner rather than later.
Liam is more focused on the fact that he can potentially learn magic. Only one in one hundred can wield the mystical forces, and he’s excited to find that he’s one of them. Liam, in reality, is a true magical prodigy. He now focuses on enjoying his new life while learning as much magic as possible. Potentially, he could use his newfound power to help his family maintain their noble status.
