The producers for A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics left a present under the tree on Christmas Eve — the first trailer. That’s not all! The promotional video also revealed the three stars of the cast and its spring anime season premiere. That’s right. We’ll have Kantoku’s character designs for the first half of 2024 during consecutive seasons. Let’s check out the trailer!
When J-List last covered news about A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics, we only had the original character designs from the light novels. Here, we can see how the adapted forms move around. Also, we can feel the sense of comedy in the relationship between the jaded private detective, Kaburaya, and the princess from another world, Sara. And possibly the best news for “plot” and “justice” fans: the adaptation will scratch your itch with generous applications of Sara and her knight, Livia.
Tossing A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics
Please consult the last post about A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics for information on the production staff. Let’s meet the voices of the three main characters.
- Sousuke Kaburaya — Makoto Furukawa (Benimaru from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. The third season of this anime also starts in April, so Makoto will be a busy voice actor.) The 29-year-old runs a detective agency in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture. He has an unassuming appearance and good skills for a detective, but his business is not going well. Sousuke used to be an ace detective at a major firm.
- Sara da Odin — Hinaki Yano (Kitasan Black from Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 3) The 13-year-old girl is a princess and magician from another world. Sousuke found her when she came to this world after her homeland was destroyed. Sara quickly adjusted to modern life in Japan and lives happily every day. The title of the anime is a pun on her name.
- Livia do Udis — M・A・O (Shion from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Another busy voice actor! She also played Meidri from Interspecies Reviewers. Plus, Yui from Kantoku’s One Room!) The 20-year-old female knight is Sara’s close friend and boasts outstanding martial arts skills. She followed after Sara, but now she is homeless and has nowhere to go.
We’ll have more news as A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics’s premiere date approaches in April. I’m glad the production crew has already animated all eight characters I had previewed. I’m also pleased the anime adaptation highlights Livia’s heterochromia because I could barely pick them out from the light novel character sheets. Buxom, sexy knights, or maids watching over pettanko princesses appears to be a common harem circumstance. Kaburaya will have his hands full in one way or another!
Playing Detective in Another World
I’m more excited about this show than when I first heard about it! I liked how a reverse-isekai premise would let us have fanservice from the seedier elements around Gifu, Japan. Throw in a few fireballs and knights wearing short skirts and lower decolletage, and my hype levels hover near the maximum.

J-List has a hentai series of DVDs for you if you like the idea of a busty knight “helping” her princess in any way she can. Check out Aegis in the Enjo Kouhai (Assisted Mating) beach episode! With tanlines!
