In addition to this trailer, Asahi Production set up a home page and an official Twitter account that potential viewers can follow for further updates and some nice extras about A Galaxy Next Door, such as the key visual art below.
A Galaxy Next Door follows a struggling mangaka whose output has been hindered by his insistence on using pens and paper in a digital age. His assistants tend to leave him to debut their own work, as well. The backdrop to all this is tragedy: Ichirou’s father died, and he, with only a middle school education, must care for his younger siblings, his sister Machi and his brother Fumio. He gained some success after graduating from middle school, and his work also became serialized. But he has clearly hit a rough patch in his career.
By some miracle, his newest assistant Shiori is incredibly skilled, both fast and efficient. It was also her first job, and she had only ever studied an old shoujo manga instruction book. She’s also somewhat strange, insisting that she’s a princess engaged to Ichirou, but she’s kind and pretty, so it’s okay.
For some background information about the series, A Galaxy Next Door (Otonari ni Ginga) is an adaptation of a manga series written and illustrated by Gido Amagakure. Kodansha began publishing the series on April 7th, 2020. And it continues with five volumes that avid readers can pick up and enjoy.
