Episode 6 – “Uzaki-chan Wants to Celebrate!”

Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! double-downed on the secret identity comedy formula. The setup relies on the audience knowing things that the characters don’t. Last week, the Uzaki family held a meeting about Hana’s “boyfriend.” We’re familiar with Tsuki’s delusions about Sakurai’s intentions, so those jokes will continue. But Fujio had just heard about the man in his daughter’s life. It makes sense that he would get the opinion of someone about the same age. The ratcheting humor comes from the audience knowing that Fujio could directly ask Sakurai his questions if he knew that Sakurai was Hana’s “friend.” The arrows slapping and dancing around Sakurai made the scene even funnier. I can’t wait to see how Fujio reacts when he meets the Sakurai that Hana knows.
There was another comedy amplification scene at the end of the Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! episode. Uzaki-chan belatedly realized that her fun college life with Sakurai-senpai had an end date. Sakaki and the Asais have been gently pressuring her to confess her feelings, but now she has a deadline! Humor works by putting a twist on an expectation. Throughout the episode, Uzaki-chan’s refrain was that Sakurai loves her, not the other way around. But if Uzaki-chan can’t find a way to hurry up his love confession, she should be the one to act. Right? That’s not how the short stack’s mind works! Sakurai needs to act by staying in college another year! Uzaki-chan’s emotions made her think like a child. Stop time for me!

Sakurai became a gym rat in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! He’s gone back to his athletic roots. Also, he’s blowing off emotional frustration steam. He likes hearing Hana call him by his given name. Baka couple! Fujio’s gym is called Muscle Garden. That fits in with how his kids are named after plants and trees. Of course. Dudes working out will turn the conversation to girls. Ha! Fujio is the one doing all the complaining. About his daughter! The arrows are killing me! Fujio’s problem lad is right in front of him! Hohoho. Uzaki-chan does not look like a twenty-year-old. Even Fujio joined the “just date already!” crowd. Oh, man. The cheesy video game training montage music slays me. Sakurai became a better man!
Uzaki-chan doesn’t like being ghosted. Yup. Sakurai found another loner hobby. One quick text, all is right in the world of Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Nice, nice. Tsuki soaks in the tub to provide that MILF fanservice. Yanagi wants to meet Sakurai-senpai, but Hana is selfish. Oh? Tsuki is avoiding Sakurai’s lecherous leering! How will playing with a cat turn into a misunderstanding? Tsuki will find a way. Aw. One of the Uzaki cats likes Sakurai, but the other one is still shy. Uh oh. Tsuki ran into Sakurai on the way home. Here we go! The mad lad wants to hold two cuties in each arm! That wolf!
Yay! It’s Tsuki’s birthday! Hahaha! Fujio wants a birthday gift of his own: another child! Hee hee. Look at how cuddly Tsuki and Fujio became the morning after. Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! is so wholesome. Uzaki-chan realized that she didn’t know Sakurai’s birthday! Sakaki can’t believe how slow Uzaki-chan is taking things. Ami remembers Sakurai’s birthday well because it’s “Nice Meat Day!” So many Japanese puns come from November calendar dates. Ami wants Uzaki-chan to cosplay for Sakurai’s birthday present! Oh, good. Uzaki-chan cooked him dinner, played video games, watched a movie, read manga, and ate birthday cake. No drinking? I would not read Kuso Cat Wants to Hang Out!.
Aha. Uzaki-chan wants a more extravagant payback for her birthday next year. Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! is confirmed for one more year. Oops. Uzaki-chan didn’t consider that Sakurai would be graduating before she did! Will she hurry it up? No! Stay back a year, Senpai! So selfish! There aren’t enough Uzakimiles in the world to pay for that!
