Otaku Elf (Edomae Elf) is almost an isekai: a being from one world traveled to another. In this case, roughly 400 years ago, an elven woman traveled from her world to Japan and moved into a Shinto shrine as the patron deity. As shown in the trailer, a teaser that studio C2C released before the April 7th air date, the elegant and refined elf would rather game and eat snacks than do anything related to her role at the shrine.
C2C also set up a home page and a Twitter account for potential viewers to visit and learn more about Otaku Elf. Background information and extras, such as voice actors and the key visuals below, can all be found there.
An Elf in Japan
One of the stars of Otaku Elf is the titular elf herself. Centuries ago, Elda was summoned from her world to this one and took up residence in the Takamimi Shrine. Though she can use “spirit magic” that enables ranged telepathy, Elda insists she lacks supernatural powers. And the current shrine maiden, Koito Koganei, insists that Elda is useless despite being 621 years old, but the local populace still worships her.
Takamimihime-no-Mikoto, whose real name is Eldarie Irma Fanomenel, is gifted snacks, such as chips, the popular energy drink “Red Bell,” or the popular VR gaming system “PloyStation VR.” Elda does not act like the elves portrayed in legends, but the people love her since she has been there their entire lives. It’s gradually revealed that there is more to Elda than just being an otaku shut-in with a childish demeanor, such as an earlier meeting with Tokugawa Ieyasu. Koito’s time as Elda’s shrine maiden shapes up to be more than she anticipated when what she expected was a tedious task of caring for an immortal crybaby.
Otaku Elf Origins
Elda first came to live in Tsukishima in a manga series written and illustrated by Akihiko Higuchi. Kodansha began publishing his work on June 17th, 2019, and six volumes have been released already.
