What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than with cute anime girls. Peter discussed how Thanksgiving is celebrated in Japan, so let’s give thanks for cute waifus in our own way. Anime has plenty of winged girls. These girls can soar high in the sky and right into our hearts. Sometimes sweetly and other times with the intent to end our lives. So let us thank these winged girls on this most special of holidays.
1. Illy (Monster Girl Doctor)
Illy isn’t as scary as the other monster girls in her series. She is a phoenix/harpy hybrid monster girl. Illy is an incredibly skilled flier with great speed and combat tactics, making her a match for almost anyone. When needed, her feathers can be as hot as the sun. After recovering from her molt, Illy expressed interest in her doctor.
Joe has written a detailed review of her debut episode.
Yoshino Origuchi and Z-Ton worked on the original light novel series from June 24th, 2016, to March 25th, 2022. Shueisha published all ten volumes in the Dash X Bunko imprint.
2. Harpie Lady (Yu-Gi-Oh!)
Harpie Lady is one of the iconic and classic monsters from Yu-Gi-Oh!. This winged girl is from the Harpie class of monsters, a group filled to the brim with cute and sexy winged girls. Harpie Lady is also Mai Valentine’s/Kujaku Mai’s signature card and has seen Mai succeed as a duelist. This didn’t see them spared from censorship, however.
Kazuki Takahashi first released Yu-Gi-Oh! on September 17th, 1996. Since then, multiple series and protagonists have come to save the world by winning card games.
3. Papi (Monster Musume / Everyday Life with Monster Girls)
Papi is another harpy-type winged girl. She’s a cute, innocent girl who proudly represents true “justice” for anime girls. She also stands out among the “plot” monster girls in her series. Despite being as old as Miia, Papi acts quite a bit childish.
Okayado began working on his monster girl-filled series on March 19th, 2012. Tokuma Shoten has released seventeen volumes thus far in the Monthly Comic Ryu magazine.
4. Sariel (Seven Heavenly Virtues)
Sariel is one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, the Archangel of Kindness. Yes, this winged girl is an actual divine archangel. As such, she is prime waifu material, primarily because she acts motherly. Sariel admits to using her generous “assets” to soothe others in times of worry, making her a prime candidate for Best Girl on any list.
If you want to bring Best Archangel home, J-List can help you. The Sariel -Statue of Mercy 1/8 Figure is now available for purchase.
Like Queen’s Blade, Sin: The 7 Deadly Sins and its spinoff Seven Heavenly Virtues are based on Hobby Japan’s roster of sexy anime girls wearing very little clothing in action scenes.
5. Monet (One Piece)
Monet is another harpy for this winged girl list. She had human limbs in the past, but things changed at one point, and she got an upgrade. Monet was a loyal pirate who served Donquixote Doflamingo. She also watched Caesar Clown because Doflamingo didn’t fully trust the mad scientist. Besides her native harpy abilities, Monet possessed the abilities granted to her by the Yuki Yuki no Mi.
Kimihito Irie and Shino created the light novel series from January 20th, 2010, to May 20th, 2014. Fujimi Shobo published all nine volumes in the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint.
6. Sailor Lead Crow (Sailor Moon)
Sailor Lead Crow is one of the Sailor Animamates, a group of Sailor Guardians in service to Sailor Galaxia. She plans to collect Star Seeds and extract them with her partner, Sailor Aluminum Siren. She is so dedicated that she kills her home planet’s Guardian, Sailor Coronis, to steal her Star Seed to curry favor with Sailor Galaxia.
Naoko Takeuchi wrote and illustrated Sailor Moon from December 28th, 1991, to February 3rd, 1997. Kodansha published all eighteen volumes in the pages of Nakayoshi.
7. Jibril (No Game No Life)
We move on from the cute elf girl to the winged girl of No Game No Life. Jibril is the youngest and most talented of the Flügel race. Her powers are considered truly godlike, so it’s fortunate that she’s working with the heroes.
No Game No Life set up the chess game of a lifetime as a light novel series by Yuu Kamiya and published by Media Factory on April 25th, 2012.
8. Irina Shidou (High School DxD)
High School DxD has no shortage of waifu archetypes, which include sexy teachers. Irina is an angel, so she’s another divine, winged girl. She was once a human and devout Christian. Her faith remained unshaken, even after discovering the secret about God’s current status. Upon her death, Michael reincarnated Irina into an angel. She is also one of Issei’s many brides.
Ichiei Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero worked on the original light novel from September 20th, 2008, to March 20th, 2018. Fujimi Shobo published all 25 volumes and four short stories in Dragon Magazine.
9. Albedo (Overlord)
Albedo might be a digital waifu, but she’s still a winged girl. She is among the scary and sexy members of Ainz’s guild, and few could touch her in battle. Albedo is totally in love with Ainz, but as an undead being, Ainz has no “drive” to do anything about it. As powerful as he is, there’s no overcoming that. Thanks to that detail, Ainz’s isekai adventure just hasn’t been the perfect life it could be. Though he did try to “handle” it in his own way.
If you want your own borderline yandere, winged waifu, J-List can help. The Albedo POP UP PARADE Figure Dress Ver. from Overlord is now available for pre-order.
Kugane Maruyama began to work on the original novel on May 9th, 2010. From July 30th, 2012, so-bin joined him on the light novel iteration. Enterbrain has currently published sixteen volumes.
10. Quetzalcoatl (Fate/Grand Order)
She doesn’t wield a typical sword, but this winged girl inspires courage. Quetzalcoatl is a mighty goddess who shows her wings only when necessary. For more cultured otaku, Quetzalcoatl’s anime wardrobe differs from the game in that only her red top covers her chest. It’s time to keep those pause buttons at the ready.
Type-Moon, led by Kinoko Nasu, released the first Fate/stay night as an adult visual novel on January 30th, 2004. Toned-down versions were released later, allowing it to reach general audiences.
11. Ray (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? / Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka)
A world with cute elf girls would naturally have some cute winged girls. Ray is a Siren Xenos and one of the three Xenos leaders. She is a kind, gentle leader with a beautiful voice that can calm those around her. Ray is also a force to be reckoned with during tense battles.
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? first entered the dungeon as a light novel series written by Fujino Omori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda on January 15th, 2013. SB Creative has since published nineteen volumes in the GA Bunko imprint.
12. Filo (The Rising of the Shield Hero / Tate no Yusha no Nariagari)
Filo is a Filolial bird that Naofumi purchased early in the series. She eventually hatched, and after a while as a regular chick, Filo gained a human form. She grew in power as she spent time with the Shield Hero, but she’s still a cute winged girl.
Aneko Yusagi first released his novel series sometime in 2012. Media Factory obtained the publishing rights and attached the artist Seira Minami to work on the light novels. Since August 22nd, 2013, 22 volumes have been published in the MF Books imprint.
