People often overlook the most essential adventuring party member. Even the mightiest of heroes need a healer to support them. True medieval tabletop gamers know how valuable high fantasy healers are to any balanced party. The recent Gen Con reminded us of the importance of healers for keeping a party alive. These holy maidens perform the same healing support role for anime protagonists. So, let’s give these waifus the respect they deserve.
1. Leylia (Record of Lodoss War)
This is one of the classic high fantasy healers. Leylia is a cleric and a Priestess of Marfa, the goddess of creation. She is also the reincarnation of Naneel, the High Priestess of Kardis, the God of Destruction. Leylia grew up destined to bring light and life to the world. However, the forces of darkness had other plans for her. After thwarting their plans, she resumed her role as a cleric, healing others.
Ryo Mizuno released the original Record of Lodoss War novel series between April 10th, 1988, and March 27th, 1993. Kadokawa Shoten released all seven volumes and two side stories in the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. Studio Madhouse’s anime adaptation premiered on June 30th, 1990.
2. Ristarte (Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious)
This is one of the divine high fantasy healers. Ristarte is the Goddess of Healing and the one who summoned Seiya Ryuuguuin to save a magical world. This is one of the few times the goddess has to help the isekai protagonist. Though she is a goddess, Ristarte is one of the weaker deities. Her healing abilities work well in a pinch, but her standard spells can be outdone by healing items.
Light Tuchihi and Saori Toyota released the original Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious light novel on February 10th, 2017. Fujimi Shobo has since published seven volumes in the Kadokawa Books imprint. Studio White Fox’s anime adaptation premiered on October 2nd, 2019.
3. Aqua (KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!)
We have another divine high fantasy healer to worship. Aqua is a goddess who guides deceased Japanese people to another world so they can join the fight against the forces of evil. She also grants them divine gifts and skills to sweeten the deal. Though she may be powerful, she’s very lax in her duties. Kazuma dragged Aqua from the celestial realm after she antagonized him by mocking his death.
If you need your own divine healing waifu, J-List has you covered. The Aqua 1/7 Figure Sneaker Bunko 30th Anniversary Ver. from KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! is available for purchase right now.
Natsume Akatsuki and Kurone Mishima released the original KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! light novel between October 1st, 2013, and May 1st, 2020. Kadokawa Shoten published all seventeen volumes in the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. Studio Deen’s anime adaptation premiered on January 14th, 2016.
4. Melpha (Queen’s Blade)
Don’t let the lewd and powerful Holy Poses fool you. This nun is one of the true high fantasy healers. Melpha is a woman of faith who runs a church in Gainos. What she lacks in raw fighting talent, she more than makes up in raw magic. Her gift of holy magic allows her to heal the wounded and banish evil from her sight. But Melpha doesn’t particularly enjoy striking lewd poses to do so.
Queen’s Blade first began its sexy tournament as a series of visual combat books published by Hobby Japan. Studio ARMS’s anime adaptation premiered on April 2nd, 2009.
5. Mimosa Vermillion (Black Clover)
Mimosa is a noblewoman and Magic Knight who utilizes Plant Magic. She can create whatever she needs using plants, from weapons to wings. Mimosa is an exceptional healer mage who can bring people back from the brink of death.
Yuki Tabata released the original Black Clover manga series on February 16th, 2015. Shueisha then published 36 volumes in Weekly Shonen Jump and Jump Giga. Studio Pierrot’s anime adaptation premiered on October 3rd, 2017.
