We’ve previously spoken to the remarkably talented H from the VTuber animation team H and Mr.H, and I was fortunate enough to be able to talk to another member of another VTuber animation team, とりぷる / Tripl3. I only recently found their channel, but one video in, I became a fan.
Justin: I just found your channel recently, the Calli and Kobo video was recommended, and I immediately subscribed. What first drew you to VTubers? Was it someone in particular?
とりぷる / Tripl3: I started watching Vtubers in earnest when I saw Coco’s AsaCoco.
Then I became interested in the other members who perform at AsaCoco and started to watch the entire Hololive cast.
Justin: Kiryu Coco was just great, and what an awesome VTuber to introduce you to the rest of the VTubing world. Besides AsaCoco, what was your favorite Coco stream or event?
とりぷる / Tripl3: I especially like the 3D horror stream by Shiryu-gumi (Coco and Shion).
I also like Reddit shitpost reviews.
Justin: What’s your clip selection method? Do you find the most popular clips, or do you just choose the ones you like, regardless of view counts?
とりぷる / Tripl3: I choose my favorite scene, but my favorite scenes are often popular clips.
However, recently the number of animation clip channels has been increasing. I hope to animate popular scenes and interesting moments that people don’t know about.
Justin: Have any VTubers you animated ever reacted to your videos? I can only imagine how great it would be to see them appreciate your work.
とりぷる / Tripl3: I had them react several times on stream and Twitter.
I respect them and I’m very honored.
Justin: Awesome! Do you remember who they are?
とりぷる / Tripl3: I especially remember Moona and Shion because they commented on my videos.
Justin: That’s great. I’m glad you got recognition for your great work. Which do you consider your most popular animation?
とりぷる / Tripl3: Suisei, Miko, and Flare clips are the most popular. Like Sui-chan is~?|”Press F to speed up”
Justin: Nice, I like that one too. You did great work on it. Could you give us a hint about which VTuber will be featured in your next video?
とりぷる / Tripl3: Maybe Kronii and Polka.
Justin: Nice! How long does it take you to finish a video?
とりぷる / Tripl3: About 1~2 weeks.
Justin: Nice, that’s pretty fast. Do you work alone, or as part of a team?
とりぷる / Tripl3: We are both drawing.
Justin: Oh, so you’re a team, that’s cool. What inspired you and your team to learn animation?
とりぷる / Tripl3: I’ve been drawing for ages, but I started drawing animation when I started making Hololive animation clips.
I studied animation to broaden my range of expression.
Justin: That’s great, animating VTubers was your start in animation. What advice would you give to someone looking to get into animation?
とりぷる / Tripl3: I think it is important to repeat input and output.
So I think you should draw a lot of your favorites and find new things you like.
Justin: Great advice. I’d hate to take more of your time, so let’s wrap it up here for now. Do you have any final thoughts for the readers?
とりぷる / Tripl3: Thank you for reading this. I’ll continue to do my best to draw funny animations.
A huge thanks goes to とりぷる / Tripl3 for taking the time to talk to me about his team’s animation work. You can follow them on Twitter, and their Japanese or English subtitled YouTube channels.
