Vermeil’s touchy-feely antics with Alto make Lilia more jealous. The powerful pair gains the notice of the captain of the Dragonriders.
Episode 3 – “A Dragonrider’s Beating Heart”
Hmm.
Vermeil in Gold started building the structure for Alto’s character development and the basic shape for the rest of the season. Alto wants to climb the ranks of magician classes, and Vermeil wants to help him attain his ambition. The first step is joining the student council. That means kicking someone off. Chris, the violent, sadistic, and prideful biker gang boss, is the first steppingstone for Alto.
I hope Vermeil in Gold makes Alto grow quickly as a magician because he did not impress me in his duel with Chris. He only knows how to make crystals! I thought Alto was the top student in his class. Alto is a boring guy who only knows how to study and lacks creativity and imagination, so the impulsive and sensual Vermeil makes a complementary partner for him. She’ll help him think with his other head. Sexual confidence leads to self-confidence in other areas of a man’s life, so Vermeil’s plan has merit.
I’m worried that Vermeil in Gold will fall into the magic battle academy template that glutted the anime market a decade ago. We are three episodes into the season, and we already have two televised duels and a street fight. I’d rather see a mix of world-building, slice-of-life, and intriguing revelations about Vermeil. Let’s see more of Maid Cheryl’s fancy choices of intimate wear too!
Heh.
Vermeil enjoys a fancy crepe. Her era didn’t have these newfangled sweets back then. I like how Vermeil in Gold keeps a consistent gold, sparkly reaction gag. Don’t get fat, Vermeil! Just gain weight in the right places! Ugh. Alto is too wishy-washy right now. I hope he gains self-confidence quickly. That timid personality type will get annoying just as quickly. Aha. The Dragonriders are flashy. They ride their dragons standing up and holding flares. Ooh. I want to see Vermeil eat a choco-banana too!
Marx is the expert on Captain Chris of the Dragonriders. Why is he the reference library of students? Does Marx just pay attention to beautiful girls? Chris started the dragon familiars club, so she might have personal issues with a member getting beat up by a junior student. Ah. Here’s why Chris is relevant to Alto. She’s a Gold Square-ranked magician, so Alto needs to measure his abilities against hers. Wait a minute! Vermeil in Gold missed a chance to show a PE episode with Vermeil bouncing around! Aargh. There better be a locker room scene.
Okay, Vermeil in Gold. I forgive you. Thank you for the lingerie locker room! Nice. Cheryl fits the quiet-talking maid type as she wears extra sexy underwear. Lilia and Cheryl find Vermeil suspicious. No way a human novice magician has that much magic to one-shot a Cerberus! Uh, Lilia is not fooling anyone that she doesn’t have deeper feelings for Alto than friendship. Leave her be, for now. Cheryl has experience with unspoken feelings in a close relationship. Well, Marx looks so scatterbrained. She might have confessed a long time ago, and it didn’t register with him. Haha! Vermeil was in the locker room, but not the girls’ locker room!
Ooh. Look. Vermeil in Gold lets us know the Student Council members have several quirky personality traits. They have distinct accents, flashy flair, and accessories. And they openly talk about their interests, as if everyone should already know about them. Just let me know which one Alto needs to defeat first. Oh, right. It’s Chris, the Dragonriders’ Captain. Thank you for those provocative glances between Chris and Vermeil. Hot chicks are sizing each other up!
Sudden shower scene! Naked skinship is the best way to encourage honesty and intimacy in Vermeil in Gold. Creative censorship with a devil tail, showerhead, and bubbles. Go! Oho. Vermeil likes Alto’s lean muscle. Pressing bare, wet skin together is the best time to strategize. Vermeil sees people with power, so she wants to take it and give it to Alto. She’s the perfect girlfriend for an ambitious wizard.
Thanks, Vermeil in Gold. Now we can openly root against Chris. She won’t have a redemption arc until someone beats her down. Oh, like the lead character and his busty, horny devil. Rex committed two sins against the Dragonriders. First, he lost a fight to an underclassman. Chris doesn’t believe Vermeil is Alto’s familiar. Is that important? Is it a sign of her prejudice? Second, Rex doesn’t even have a dragon for his familiar. A dinosaur is not a dragon! How did he get in her club, anyway? Ugh. She wants Rex to lick her boots clean. Well, he quit. Rex has a spine. Alto made a friend through fighting.
Har. Alto thinks dinosaurs are cool. He and Rex are friends for life! And in Vermeil in Gold, friends take revenge by dueling cruel females in public. The kids at the magic academy must get tons of exercise by climbing those staircases to floating platforms. Chris needs Alto to respect her authority! Chris’ dragon familiar’s name is Whirlwind. The first thing Alto and Vermeil do to power up is lock lips! Let’s dance.
Meh. Vermeil in Gold can do better than this. Can’t Alto fight with any other magic than crystals? Chris likes finger-shooting fireballs. Vermeil uses her body to shield Alto. Is she saving her magic for an opportune moment? Vermeil doesn’t appear hurt, but Alto doesn’t like seeing her luscious skin getting charbroiled. These two magicians are boring fighters. Shoot crystals and shoot fireballs. Breasts block fire, and the dragon dodges crystals.
What a stupid question. Alto asks Chris why she looks down on everyone. She’s standing on a flying dragon’s back, looking down on him! How about you find some devil wings for Vermeil and get up there? Chris’s glasses-wearing colleague on the student council doesn’t need to watch the rest of her duel. He dismissed Alto’s chances. I figure he’s next in Vermeil in Gold for a serving of humble pie. Eh? Alto’s big final attack is a tall crystal shard? Boring! But that’s the cliffhanger. Also, is that a metaphor for Alto’s diamond shaft? Find out next time!
Vermeil in Gold (Kinsou no Vermeil: Gakeppuchi Majutsushi wa Saikyou no Yakusai to Mahou Sekai wo Tsuki Susumu) streams weekly on Hidive in Japanese audio and English subtitles.
