Vermeil draws male students’ attention for lots of reasons. Later, she helps Alto in a magical trial.
Episode 2 – “The New Term and the Fairy Flower”
Hmm.
The second episode of Vermeil in Gold shows us what kind of story it wants to tell. There was world-building when Alto explained his ambition to become a top-class magician to Vermeil. The different ranks of magicians provide a guideline for Alto’s character development and hint at an overarching story. Of course, Alto can’t do it alone, but he will need more people than Vermeil to help him. He’ll need friends and companions, so we met candidates for his close group of friends.
The way Alto met his new friends and rivals was more slapstick than I expected. We still have the light and comedic tone from the first episode, but Vermeil in Gold will lean heavily into fanservice to make jokes. I like how self-aware the anime can be when it makes fun of other students staring at Vermeil’s sexy features. We’re doing the same thing from behind a TV screen! The demoness knows how much people like looking at her, so that adds to her fun of teasing Alto. She loves making him squirm!
I appreciated hints from external sources on how rare Vermeil’s summoning is. According to her, she’s only allowing Alto to contract her as a familiar because she’s having fun. And Vermeil needs to drink up his thick, potent mana. Vermeil in Gold shows that she’s only role-playing as a summoned familiar. But one of Alto’s teachers explained that demon seals are top-secret and classified, so how did her book end up in a school library? Alto’s goal of ascending to the upper ranks of mages could be related to solving Vermeil’s mysterious appearance.
Heh.
Alto feels the eyes of his fellow students on him, but he doesn’t understand why. Oh, sweet summer child. Alto needs guy friends to show him how, ahem, respectably to appreciate the female form. He doesn’t want Vermeil to stand out, but parts of her just stand out. Ack. Forehead flicking a runaway dragon isn’t the way to stay in the background. Oh please, oh please, oh please! Show me the dragon disappear in the sky! Kapwing! Yes! Classic comedy bit from Vermeil in Gold. Also, classic side-boob shot.
It’s the new term, and the magic school principal addresses the student assembly. He has a long beard and a tall hat. Nobody is paying attention to him, though. Vermeil’s boobs are like a black hole, sucking in all the light and eyeballs. Har. Lilia doesn’t like the gossip going around about Alto and “his weird girlfriend” sending a dragon flying. I guess some dragons don’t fly. The new second-year students have a new homeroom teacher. She likes plants. Big plants! The homeroom teacher admonishes the students to fill their familiars with sincere love. Vermeil in Gold loves those innuendoes. Uh oh. This serious-looking teacher claims that Vermeil’s seal makes it impossible for her to reappear in the physical world. Time to turn off the show. We’re watching fiction, everyone!
Oh! Did you think that Vermeil giving a flying flick to a dragon wouldn’t matter? This magic school has a Yankee gang! They ride dragons instead of motorcycles or mamacharis. Woof. The character animation went straight to B-grade in the second episode. Just keep Vermeil and her side boobs looking good. That’s all I ask. Vermeil in Gold gave us this dragon-fighting scene to show us how Alto and Vermeil’s teamwork works when they fight. Har. Rex’s dragon familiar’s name is Tyranosuke. Thanks for the dinosaur references to Tyrannosaurus Rex. Aw. I’m sure that Vermeil could have flicked this dragon too, but she wanted to let Alto take the credit. Boobs in the back give boys wings! At least Rex lost honorably. He could be an ally later.
Aw. Vermeil and Alto are getting to know each other. More like the demoness gets to learn more about her boy toy. She’ll help him get to platinum-class magician status! Boys, be ambitious and all that. But first, Vermeil needs thick mana. Why does she need to be naked to kiss Alto? Why not!
Hey! It’s the dude with the rhinoceros beetle. Marx is a rich guy with a live-in maid. Her name is Cheryl, and she’s brighter than he is. So bright that she’s one of the top three students in the class with Alto and Lilia! The beardy headmaster invites the three to compete for the job of class representative. Get the fairy flower first! There’s the Vermeil in Gold episode title. Yes! Marx’s familiar is so cute! Francoise rocks the pink ribbon on her horn. Cheryl is not impressed with her master’s skills. I like canvas-style artwork on the background art. This is no good. Cerberus guards the path to that fairy flower.
Yes. Yes! Invisibility potion for Lilia and the win! I know where this is going. And you know where this is going. Vermeil in Gold is not Harry Potter. That potion won’t affect Lilia’s clothes! Strip! Strip! Strip! Oh no. Lilia thinks she can sneak past Cerberus because two of its heads have a head cold. What if the other one doesn’t? Vermeil will help protect Lilia in exchange for Alto’s thick, potent mana. Time to pull up that virgin-killer dress! There it is. One of the Cerberus heads doesn’t have a nasal infection. Lilia is in trouble! Vermeil gave back amplified mana to Alto. Eat that magic, Cerberus! Lilia grabbed that fairy flower, but will she become the class representative? I have doubts.
Ah, whoops! Lilia’s invisibility potion ran out just in time! Oh no. Naked Lilia lost the fairy flower in the wind. Hahaha! Cheryl gets the flower! She’s the new class representative. That leaves time for Lilia and Alto to compete for results in their classes. It looks like Vermeil has a plan for Alto. Vermeil in Gold doesn’t do previews. Every show is a present we need to unwrap.
