Sakurai asks Uzaki to join him at a cat café. Uzaki asks Sakurai to take her to a pub for her 20th birthday.
Episode 7 – “I Want to Hang Out at a Cat Café and a Pub!”
Hmm.
Uzaki-chan got the first drinking experience right, even down to the messy hangover the next morning. Uzaki avoided the more dangerous college situations of binge drinking with a group of strangers at a party or a mixer. Thank goodness for Sakurai’s uptight personality and that he cares for Uzaki too. I suffered a minor disappointment when the drinking scene did not exactly mirror the cat café scene.
The beats for each Uzaki-chan scene matched nicely to draw out the comedy of getting hopes up for a date. They both had the awkward and misleading invitation. They both had the frustration for the missed love connection. They both had the expert instructing the neophyte on proper procedures. But only the cat café had someone addressing them as a couple. I waited for Sakurai and Uzaki’s reaction to the server calling them a bakappuru, especially Uzaki-chan’s tipsy response, but it never came. That was my tiny complaint in an otherwise great episode seeing a tiny lady drink a huge amount of alcohol. I have extra praise for Naomi Oozora, Uzaki’s voice actress, for her retching noises. Solid work there.

August 7th looks important to Uzaki. Someone’s birthday? Oh, that’s rare. Sakurai calls Uzaki. Ha. She listed him as “Senpai (Gloomlord).” Uh… did he just nervously ask Uzaki-chan on a date? Are these two finally going to get together? Of course not! Let’s see what joke Uzaki-chan is setting up here.
Uzaki is nervous. Sakurai sounded so serious over the phone. Uzaki dressed nice. Look at those strappy shoes. And Sakurai got her hopes up for nothing! Well, not nothing. He needed Uzaki-chan’s help in going inside a cat café. He couldn’t go in by himself. Yeah, I’d be angry too.
Sakurai is beside himself. So many cats! Uzaki keeps calling Sakurai “creepy” but she put an endearing tone into it. She means “happy.” Uzaki knows how Sakurai can show his gratitude. Ah. August 7th is Uzaki’s 20th birthday. Let’s get her drunk!
Gah! Sakurai didn’t hear anything because his legs fell asleep. Uh oh. Now Sakurai will have that pins and needle feeling. Time for Uzaki-chan to tease the heck out of her Senpai. Uzaki flipped her S switch on. Ha! And, uh oh. The cat café staff told them to save that “play” for home. Bakappuru! Then she kicked them out. I don’t know Uzaki’s game reference. Somebody, please let me know. Uzaki cheated on her housecats by going to the cat café. She compares her experience to married men going to hostess clubs.
No pressure, Sakurai. You’ll have to step up for Uzaki’s birthday. Woof. Big drop in animation quality for Master Asai and Ami. These two still have full-blown conversations just by looking at each other. Uzaki and Sakurai just gave them a full meal! Flowers, ring, or videogame and Sakurai believes Uzaki will reject them all. Master Asai and Ami have a better handle on Uzaki-chan’s happy reactions.
Haha. Sakurai’s scene mirrors Uzaki’s with getting a misleading phone call. He’s listed Uzaki-chan as “Uzaki (Idiot).” There it is. She’s standing right in front of a pub. The legal drinking age in Japan is 20, so this is the right thing to do. Drink! She couldn’t go in alone. We just saw something like that…
Sakurai is a good drinking senpai, but can he handle Uzaki-chan’s first time? Sakurai has a beer and Uzaki looks like she has a chuuhai (shouchuu highball) in her hand. Newbies describing alcohol burn is so cute. Still waiting to see a pettanko in Uzaki-chan. The server lady has future back problems too. I’m getting worried. Short stack Uzaki is a small lady and she just downed two drinks in less than 5 minutes. She’s going to get her first wobbly walk home, first drunk talking, and first hangover.
Ha hahaha! Your wallet is already dead! More JoJo references. Hidebu! That pairs nicely with all the AH TATATATATA attacks from Fist of the North Star. The server lady is not happy with Uzaki’s horseplay.
Oh, Sakurai finally noticed Uzaki downing her drinks so quickly. He will have a big problem soon. Yup. Uzaki-chan wobbly walking. All sorts of things are wobbling around Uzaki-chan. Boo! Why does only Sakurai get to see Uzaki’s panties? Alright. Uzaki successfully deployed the missed-the-last-train excuse. She’s bunking with Sakurai tonight! Drunken skin fang wins the argument. There you go, Uzaki. Getting carded at the liquor store on your birthday is a rite of passage.
Uzaki-chan is drinking all night long. She also picked up choco-mint pocky. She’s teasing Sakurai all night too. Bah! Coward. Has he never kissed anyone? Don’t give Uzaki any more ammo! She might not remember this tomorrow, though.
Hoho. Those are some fine retching noises. Uzaki received the full first-time drinking experience. Sakurai is in full-on drinking ojisan mode. Aw. Uzaki has time to thank Sakurai properly before ruining his futon. Uzaki-chan goes with rainbow-colored bubbles for upchucking effluvia. That is not a pretty sight. Sakurai has just seen Uzaki at her worst. He’ll need to “take responsibility” now. Goodbye futon. How will Uzaki pay him back?
