Uzaki hangs out with Sakurai while he works at a café, while he tries to pet a cat, and while he tries to eat lunch.
Episode 2 – “The Café Owner Wants a Glimpse!”
Hmm.
Uzaki-chan showed us this week how the rest of the season will organize each episode, loosely assembling a series of vignettes of Uzaki ambushing Sakurai. This puts us squarely in slice-of-life anime territory with the big (sugoi dekai!) emphasis on the bombshell short stack Uzaki innocently making Sakurai think about naughty things. Uzaki-chan is going to be a fun and sexy summer gag comedy.
A couple of other things we found out was how Sakurai really isn’t a loner and that Uzaki’s stalking skills are substandard. Uzaki-chan didn’t know where Sakurai works part-time, but she does know where he lives. She’s kept an eye on him at the cafeteria but couldn’t tell he joined his buddy for lunch. Perhaps Uzaki only follows Sakurai around on a whim when she spies him from afar. I’m glad she isn’t a creepy yandere.
By far, the best part of the Uzaki-chan episode was the Master’s introduction. The older refined gentleman usually can predict human behavior after watching people interact in his café over the years, but watching Uzaki and Sakurai is a brand-new experience. He can’t look away! It’s endearing to see him encourage Sakurai to spend time with Uzaki because he can tell his employee genuinely cares for the loud ball of energy. Well, he also has his selfish reasons for sticking them together to have fun and laugh. Master Asai is our audience insert character for Uzaki-chan.
Heh.
Ah, the coffee shop where Sakurai works looks relaxing. Jazz on vinyl records. I can’t wait to see how Uzaki-chan ruins the calm atmosphere. Sakurai’s face has scary eyes. So, he looks like that all the time, not just when he’s glaring at Uzaki. Uh oh! Here she comes! She’s loud! A close friend… or an enemy? Hah! Both, of course.
Sakurai called it — Uzaki clashes with the café’s vibe. The Master’s running commentary is great. Har. He was going to call Uzaki-chan an elementary school student. She didn’t like that. The Master was wrong! Specific parts of her belong to an adult. Uzaki is an interesting specimen, yes. She’s expanding his boundaries on his knowledge of the human experience.
Oh boy. Once Uzaki starts ranting, she just keeps going. Sakurai will show her how he treats real customers in the café. The Master enjoys the show! I think I’ll watch them for a while, too. Hoho. Sakurai made Uzaki-chan go doki-doki. No, she’s not a masochist. She’s simply happy Sakurai told her she’s special. She’s the only one he’ll treat so badly, while saying that so kindly. Okay, she might be a masochist.
Not cool, Uzaki-chan! Laughing in Sakurai’s face after he put on his working face is not cool! No food for you! The Master has trouble keeping a straight face too. He’s having fun.
Senpai Wants to Pet a Cat! Am I doing these episode titles right? Um, this scene reminds me of a certain sugoi dekai relationship dynamic… Is Sakurai the cat and Uzaki the big human who wants to play? Or the other way around? The real Uzaki-chan doesn’t like Sakurai’s dopey grin. Is Uzaki jealous of the cat? Uzaki just impressed Sakurai. What if Sakurai approached Uzaki the same way to scratch her chin? The opening credits confirm that Uzaki has two cats at her apartment. Will we meet her roommate? Aw. The cat ran away before Sakurai could pet it. Uzaki’s solution — catch the cat! Jiggle mechanics are still strong. Uzaki belly cam…
Beautiful view, Sakurai-senpai! Uzaki-chan has PLOT but she also has interesting backstory. Smack that thing! Disappointing. We’ll only get Uzaki’s backstory in small doses. Sakurai gets a glimpse of his future with Uzaki… Haha! Uzaki called her breasts “oppai.” That’s not very ladylike. Oh no. Those ladies are going to declare Sakurai the enemy of all women. The dialogue between Sakurai and Uzaki is perfect, taken out of context. Sakurai didn’t get to pet a cat, but he did lay his hands on a different cute, small thing. Uzaki will make him pay later, oh yes, she will.
Smug Uzaki gets the wrong idea. She’s in total shock Sakurai has a friend who eats with him. How does Sakurai know Uzaki’s sign language? 大丈夫ッスか? (daijoubussuka? — Are you okay?). They are such a couple. They’re texting while sitting at different tables. Oh. Uzaki-chan does have friends. This one worries about her manners too, since her udon is going to puff up. Soggy noodles are never a good thing.
Oh, nice. The Master is going to see another funny scene. Good to know. Master Asai says he has a college-age daughter. Relaxing café no more. Here comes Uzaki-chan again. Oh, she wants Sakurai’s help in rewriting a report. The Master found his next show.
Ooh, Uzaki big pout! Sakurai won’t let her see his apartment. Uh oh. There’s the next misunderstanding. Uzaki-chan said she can sleep in because Sakurai’s place is so close to campus. Sleep in after doing what?! She’s talking about videogames, Sakurai you big perv! She got him good, accidentally. Master Asai, enjoy the show. Ha, he’ll pay Sakurai even more to make sure the show goes on.
Next time, we’ll get to meet Master Asai’s daughter.
