Looking for a great visual novel that combines one of the best and most engaging stories with three great heroines to interact with? One that not only has a highly emotional story to enjoy along each girl’s route, but an outstanding number of sex scenes to enjoy? Would you like a game with subtle and beautiful art by Kiyotaka Haimura, famous for illustrating the A Certain Magical Index novels? Then you should totally pick up Yume Miru Kusuri: A Drug That Makes You Dream.
Yume Miru Kusuri is an outstanding game published by Will Plus in Japan, and by JAST USA in English. It features a story created by Romeo Tanaka, one of the top Japanese visual novel writers, famous for work on Kana: Little Sister, Family Project, and Rewrite by Key. Pretty much all VN fans who know his work follow the stories he tells closely.
You play Kouhei Kagami, an average Japanese student whose parents died when he was young, and he’s now living with a new family, complete with a cute younger sister he’s conveniently not related to. It’s a story where Kouhei finds himself with three troubled girls around him, each in need of some friendship and love to get through life.
The first girl is Aeka, a shy girl who’s being bullied by her classmates. The abuse she’s going through is terrible, and she’s very lonely without any true friends. When you start to get close to her, the two of you reach a strange bargain: in exchange for being her friend, she’ll let you have sex with her, if you want. Naturally you jump at the chance to become “sex friends” with such a cute girl.
My favorite girl is Mizuki, the overworked student council president who tries to act very grown-up, yet she’s as shy and scared inside as Aeka is. She tempts Kouhei into having sex in part so she can feel as adult as she pretends she is.
Finally there’s Cat Sidhe Nekoko, an adorable “catgirl” who thinks she’s a fairy. Poor Nekoko is confused and needs some friendship, as well as your dick, because it’s an adult game. (It’s so awkward when you’ve got your dick inside a girl and her mother brings you cookies.)
As each route progresses, you have to find ways to help the girl you’re working on, getting her to a better place emotionally. Each girl’s story is loads of fun, while sometimes being over the top. Usually when a game has a story that fans really love, the result is that there is very little sex, which is fine because a visual novel with a strong story doesn’t need sex to keep fans’ attention. But this game is a counter-example: the plot is enjoyable, and the sex scenes are also extremely steam and enjoyable. You get the best of both worlds with this outstanding visual novel.
