The local police question Jahy over suspicious behavior. When Jahy catches a cold, an old enemy visits her.
Restoration Plan No. 5 – “The Great Jahy Isn’t Suspicious?!”
Hmm.
The Great Jahy already has an antihero for its titular character, but are you ready for an anti-superhero? The Magical Girl who destroyed Jahy’s Dark Realm made her official debut this week, and she doesn’t act like the stereotypical one we expect from children’s shows. That’s a classic comedy device, playing with an audience’s subverted expectations, but the Magical Girl’s motivation appears… suspicious.
Jahy herself looks like a suspicious cosplayer, like the one who attracted a large dog in last week’s The Great Jahy episode. So, it’s not surprising that the local police are starting to watch out for these characters. There was even a fun reference to a Ladybeard singing in a local park. The area around Jahy’s apartment is full of suspicious characters. And the Magical Girl is only the latest one to appear. Why are they all coming to this place? For the mana crystals. Even the Magical Girl. How suspicious!
Several things stood out to make us skeptical of the Magical Girl’s intentions. The first was the background music The Great Jahy used during her scene. That sounded more like John Wick hunting down a puppy killer than a fluffy teenager defeating evildoers with rainbows and hearts. The second thing was how she asked Jahy for her mana crystal instead of whether she had seen bad guys around. She didn’t make sure a little brown girl in an oversized T-shirt was safe. The Magical Girl went straight for home invasion robbery! Why is the Magical Girl fixated on collecting mana crystals? Before we can get a different answer than protecting against calamities, the punchline of policemen put an end to the Great Jahy episode. She was acting suspiciously!
The Magical Girl’s suspicious behavior, in such a short scene, raised questions. What is a hero’s duty after she fulfilled her quest to defeat evil? Machikado Mazoku tackled this issue by letting the insanely strong magical girl “train” her next demon lord opponent. She wants to live an exciting life again. What is the Magical Girl of The Great Jahy doing now? Is she merely collecting mana crystals to prevent further calamities? We see in the end credits how her schoolgirl alter-ego suffers annoying bouts of misfortune like stepping into gutters, which relates to the Store Manager’s experience of minor calamities. I can’t wait to see the comedic material the suspicious Magical Girl brings to clash with Jahy and her acquaintances.
Heh.
Jahy is in the beer-serving groove. Store Manager proposes making her the shift leader, putting her in charge of the other employees. But there are no other employees… Hey, authority is authority, right? Does Jahy walk home dressed like that every night? Uh, no wonder a bike cop stopped her. Jahy, run away! Terrible. The Great Jahy remembers this cop being helpful, er, condescending to her when she was in her chibi form. Store Manager and Landlady needed to pick her up from the police box! Great Jahy pouts.
Oho. The suspicious person’s description didn’t match Jahy’s. It was a magical girl! But was it THE Magical Girl? Ah. No, it was Ladybeard on his way home from work. False alarm. Haha. The policeman noticed Jahy shrank.
Part two: The Great Jahy Will Not Catch a Cold! Oh, yes, she will. Landlady performs proper mask protocols. If you’re sick, stay home and wear a mask. And Jahy caught a cold for the first time. Was it because she wears so little? I’m sure Druj would love to care for a sick, defenseless Jahy, but the Great Jahy’s pride won’t allow for that. Aw. Store Manager came over to do the sick-visit rituals. Slice-of-life healing anime music plays in the background. Jahy learns a life lesson for the human world. Head pats have healing power too.
Uh oh. That is not the Store Manager! The Magical Girl found Jahy! She’s here for the mana crystal! Why is the background music so ominous? Hilarious. The Magical Girl’s voice actor is Sumire Uesaka, who recently brought another tanned beauty to life, Nagatoro, in Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro! The Magical Girl is strong! But Jahy is too weak to be the Great Jahy. The Magical Girl may as well be a muscle-bound math teacher with a beard. Hahaha! Jahy firmly believes her hair tufts have bones in her skull.
Landlady to the rescue! Well, cops to the rescue. The Magical Girl just committed trespassing and strongarm robbery. Some hero of justice she turned out to be. She’s suspicious! Hahaha! No, clearly, she’s cute! She claims to protect people from the calamites the mana crystals cause. Right. Like barking shins and making embarrassing magical girl poses in front of people… I like how Jahy is honest with herself about her fears and insecurities. Was she this introspective as the all-powerful Number Two? The ultimate insult: stomping on someone with Crocs. The Great Jahy has an evil expression when she dreams.
Pro wrestling omake! Landlady versus Jahy, of course. The stakes are rent payments, of course. Landlady’s costume is a magical girl. The Great Jahy is a mystery that wants to “restore the dark realm.” Oh, yes! Her wrestling costume answers the questions on what her booty shorts hide. These wrestling moves are from the opening credits. Landlady needs Jahy to pay her rent, and Jahy needs to refuse her. Who has the sturdier head? It’s a draw!
Next time, Jahy needs to deal with the presence of that Magical Girl.
The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! (Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!) streams on Crunchyroll and VRV.
