Every year when December rolls around, J-List’s sales of limited anime Blu-rays and anime games for the Nintendo Switch go through the roof. This is due to people buying gifts for others, or themselves. In this post let’s review the most awesome anime Blu-rays and games with full support for English subtitles (and often, Chinese, Italian, German, and more), which you can browse here.

What Are the Best Subtitled Anime Blu-Rays on J-List?
J-List sells awesome anime Blu-rays, those wonderful limited editions filled with bonus items for fans, like artbooks, stickers, and more. Most of the Blu-rays we stock are Japanese language only, and fans buy them for their collectability. Often they’re watching the subtitled or dubbed version of the anime on streaming sites. Or getting them from “other places on the Internet”. They buy the Japanese limited edition Blu-rays as a keep-forever item in their collection.
But quite a few of the Blu-rays we stock do come with full English subtitles, which is great for everyone. Some even have other language subtitles, too, like Mandarin Chinese or various European languages. We made a handy category on J-List for customers to browse these subtitled works. I wanted to write a post about the most popular titles here!
The Definitive Works of Studio Ghibli Are Fully Subtitled
First, J-List has all the popular Blu-ray releases of the films by Studio Ghibli in stock. These are the definitive versions of all films in gorgeous 1080p, overseen by both Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki. All the films are fully subtitled in English, plus (depending on the work), French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish, Korean, and Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese). You get director commentary and other bonus content on the Blu-ray discs too.

Why are these the best releases of Hayao Miyazaki’s films to get? They’re the versions the studio has selected as the ones they want to represent their company to fans around the world. There are newer dubs of some of these works, but fans regard these as the “best” ones. For example, the dub of Castle in the Sky, aka Laputa, features Mark Hamil voicing the villain Muska, which is not available in any other version.
You also get cool bonus stuff inside the Blu-ray packages. The Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind disc comes with a cool booklet reproducing one of those AmJuJu anime books we all read back in the 1980s. Natsukashii!
More Subtitled Anime Works Available
We also have other random anime films with full English subtitles. Like the recent Konosuba re-release on Blu-ray, or the outstanding 10th anniversary AnoHana movie release in 4K (wow!). Remember that Blu-rays are always region-free, so you can play them wherever you are in the world.
I was super happy to see that the Blue Archive Blu-rays we have in stock all have full support for English and Chinese subtitles. Considering all the great stuff each of the discs comes with, fans of the anime and game series should totally check them out! (Browse our naughty Blue Archive doujins while you’re at it.)
J-List Has Subtitled Anime Games for Nintendo Switch, Too!
Again, most of the anime games for Nintendo Switch we have in stock are Japanese language only. They are mainly intended for fans who don’t mind working through Japanese menus. Or who want to be on the cutting edge of anime gaming. But we do have several games with English language support, making them very popular among our customers!
As a person who’s devoted my life to spreading Japanese visual novels to the West by founding JAST USA, it warms my heart to see some of the most legendary visual novels available to enjoy on a Nintendo Switch. And with full English text support! What a time to be alive! You can play Clannad plus all its spin-off games, Little Busters, and more.
