It’s October, spooky season. As our homes are draped in a macabre veil, let us cultured otaku appreciate the scary waifus we love so much. Of course, not all vampire girls are scary. We’ll take a look at both blood-draining kinds of vampire girls, those who instill love and those who instill fear.
1. Carmilla (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust)
Having said that, the first vampire girl on our list is Countess Carmilla Elizabeth Bathory. She’s also known as
The Bloody Countess. If the moniker didn’t give it away, Carmilla is not only scary, but she’s quite evil. Carmilla was a pure-blood vampire, a member of the Nobility, and the Sacred Ancestor’s lover. This led Meier Link and Charlotte Elbourne to seek out her assistance. Meier and Charlotte are a vampire noble and a human in love, and they wish to live in peace. Carmilla promises this as she plots to use them for her own ends.
Hideyuki Kikuchi wrote and Yoshitaka Amano illustrated the Vampire Hunter D novels, beginning sometime in 1983. They have since released 53 novels in Asahi Shimbun Publications.
2. Reiri Kamura (Princess Resurrection / Kaibutsu Oujo)
We couldn’t have a vampire girls list without this scary and sexy monster girl. Reiri is a playful and aloof girl who attends a regular high school with Hiro. She is able to survive in the daylight, a rare gift for a vampire even in her world. Reiri attempted to take Hime’s blood, the blood of a phoenix, but was defeated. In the aftermath, she became one of Hime’s followers.
Yasunori Mitsunaga brought the original manga series to life from June 25th, 2005 to February 26th, 2013. Kodansha published all twenty volumes in Monthly Shonen Sirius.
3. Shinobu Oshino (Bakemonogatari)
Shinobu is the normal name for the supremely attractive and powerful vampire Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade. She began life as a beautiful princess showered in praise and gifts. However, her wish for people to see her inner beauty led to tragedy. Her only hope was a vampire who could survive her curse until a cure could be found. Many centuries later, her longing for an end leads her to Japan, and a boy named Koyomi Araragi.

Nisio Isin and Vofan began working on the Monogatari novel series on August 10th, 2005. Kodansha Box has since released 29 volumes.
4. Seras Victoria (Hellsing)
Seras was just a normal London police officer. Her investigation into a strange pastor ended with a fatal shot to the chest which should have ended her life altogether. However, the vampire Alucard turned her into a vampire. Seras then joined the Hellsing Organisation to combat the true monsters that lurked in the dark.
Kouta Hirano began working on the original manga series between May 1997 and September 2008. Ten volumes were released in the pages of Young King OURs.
5. Mina Țepeș (Dance in the Vampire Bund)
Mina Țepeș is the Princess-Ruler of all vampires, and she certainly wields the power and wealth to prove it. She desires peace and co-existence between vampires and humans. To that end, she paid off Japan’s national debt in exchange for a plot of land for vampires to live on known as “The Bund.” Mina stays in a younger form to hide her true, mature form. The vampire nobility would stop at nothing to claim her body for their own to ensure a pure bloodline.
Nozomu Tamaki first released the original manga series on December 5th, 2005. The series has continued through multiple iterations, the most recent of which began on May 28, 2018.
6. Moka Akashiya (Rosario + Vampire)
Moka is a very powerful and unique vampire. In fact, there are two Mokas, the Outer and Inner Moka, The Outer Moka is cute, cheerful, and loving. Inner Moka is cold, calculating, and above all, cool. This change occurs when the human Tsukune removes the Rosario Cross from around her neck. This change in personality also makes her a bit thiccer, which is an obvious bonus.
Akihisa Ikeda wrote and illustrated this series between April 6th, 2004 and September 22nd, 2007. Shueisha published all ten volumes in Jump Comics.
7. Redcurrant (The Ancient Magus’ Bride / Mahoutsukai no Yome)
Redcurrant is technically a leánnan sídhe, a vampiric fae. However, she’s thicc and wears lingerie in public, so we’re letting her in. The hot vampiric fae can stay. Their ability to drain blood and life force is an unconscious action. It’s just something that happens to those around them. Such was the case when Redcurrant began to stay with Joel and help tend his garden. His life came to an early end because of her powers, which devastated her. However, Joel was quite content, because he knew he was not alone, even if he couldn’t see her until his time came.

Kore Yamazaki first released the original manga series on November 30th, 2013. Mag Garden has since published nineteen volumes.
8. Saya Otonashi (Blood+)
Saya, and her sister Diva, were cocoons extracted from the ancient Chiropteran Mummy. These twin sisters were given very different upbringings. Saya was shown love and affection, while Diva was treated as a mere lab experiment. Diva took revenge against those who wronged her, which earned Saya’s ire, as they were people she cared about. Thus began a centuries-long battle between the two. Saya became determined to hunt down every Chiropteran and protect humanity.
Junichi Fujisaku directed the anime series for Production I.G. and 50 episodes were aired between October 8th, 2005 and September 23rd, 2006.
9. Arcueid Brunestud (Tsukihime)
Arcueid was created by the True Ancestors in the 12th Century AD. She was meant to execute the fallen True Ancestors and end their threat to humanity. However, her naivety was used against her by the mortal priest Michael Roa Valdamjong. He tricked her into becoming a vampire like the other True Ancestors, and then he stole most of her incredible power. Roa would meet his end seventeen times in the proceeding centuries. Arcueid would see his final end in modern times, alongside Shiki.
The original Tsukihime was released on December 29th, 2000. It is currently receiving a remaster.
If you can’t wait to hold a cute vampire girl in your hands the J-List shop can help you. The Arcueid Brunestud POP UP PARADE Figure is now available for purchase. Other Tsukihime figures can likewise be found in the shop.
10. Evangeline A.K. McDowell (Negima!)
Just like Mina Țepeș and Shinobu Oshino, Eva has two forms: a small form and a thicc form. She was born sometime during the Hundred Years’ War (1337 to 1453). When she reached the age of 10, an unknown assailant used magic to turn Evangeline into a vampire. Eva fled from her home in fear of what might happen should her family discover her altered state. She traveled around and honed her new magical skills to become one of the most powerful beings. Evangeline fell in love with the “Thousand Master” Nagi and tracked him down, only to fall for his trap. She was bound to Mahora Academy and Mahora City to act as its guardian.
Ken Akamatsu created the original manga series from February 26th, 2003 to March 14, 2012. Kodansha released all 38 volumes in the pages of Weekly Shonen Magazine.
