Sonic Origins Collection Arrives this June

It’s been a great month for Sonic and his fans alike with the second film kicking off the month and dominating the box office. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 became the most-watched movie in theaters worldwide on opening weekend and even out-performed Sony’s latest film in the Spider-Man franchise, Morbius. Now, SEGA is continuing along smoothly with the first look and release date of a new collection of Sonic games, Sonic Origins.

Sonic Outperform Movie

Originally announced to celebrate Sonic’s 30th Anniversary, SEGA is releasing the first four Sonic games in a collection with some surprises that should make it worth the wait. It’s only been since June 2021! Included games are: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and Sonic CD.

Minimal quality of life changes are non-spoken expectations that SEGA delivers in this remaster. All four games have gotten the necessary facelift to maintain a clear picture on a high-resolution display. Pixel animations flow smoothly and graphics pop with brighter colors. Still, there’s plenty more to make Sonic Origins feel brand new, and keep veteran fans guessing at every turn.

Exclusive to Sonic Origins are new animated cutscenes for each game done in the same style as Sonic Mania. Soundtracks from all four games can be streamed from a music menu. New challenges such as mission mode, mirror mode, and a surprise “anniversary mode” have all been included. What is Anniversary Mode?! Well, we aren’t exactly sure, just yet. The trailer below gives us a little peek, showing the very first boss in Green Hill revamped, but how far “the remix” goes for each stage and boss is yet to be seen.

Sonic Origins will be released digitally on June 23rd, 2022 (right on time for Sonic’s 31st birthday) on all current-gen consoles, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
