Senpai screws up his courage to ask Nagatoro on a date, but she’s not helping him pick a spot.
Episode 11 — “Don’t You Miss Me, Senpai?”
Hmm.
Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro reminded me of a popularized English aphorism that might have helped Senpai try harder to ask Nagatoro on a date. I was an anime fan for only a few years before noticing numerous references to an English language phrase that meant nothing to me. “Boys, be ambitious!” was everywhere! It was on statues on school grounds, anime episode titles, song titles, a whole manga series that got one anime season, and even a BL manga.
I discovered that William Smith Clark, the founder of the University of Massachusetts, lived in Hokkaido for several years founding the Sapporo Agricultural College, which later became the Hokkaido University. On his last day as university head in 1874, Clark gave an inspiring speech to students and faculty, “Boys, be ambitious!”
“Boys, be ambitious. Be ambitious not for money, not for selfish aggrandizement, not for the evanescent thing which men call fame. Be ambitious for the attainment of all that a man can be.”
You can find the relevant text of his address on plaques in places all over Japan. Clark’s message is the same one Nagatoro has been pounding into the mousy, bushy-haired Senpai since the start of Miss Nagatoro. Senpai, be ambitious! Nagatoro wants to see Senpai be the best man he can be, and that starts by asserting his preferences. She gave him ridiculous date ideas to pressure him into making suggestions he liked.
That’s why his first few ideas annoyed her. He thought of things Nagatoro might like to do, which were wildly wrong. Where did betting on horseracing and dogfighting come from in Miss Nagatoro? Nagatoro enjoyed going to the zoo with Senpai because it combined something he liked to do, sketching, with animals, which she liked. Going to the aquarium fits the bill again because it’s a quiet place where they can spend time together. The aquarium exhibits’ purposes are to spark small conversations between the pair. Which happens in the Demon’s Love Nest.
Nagatoro saw her wish to see an ambitious Senpai happen when he asked her out. But does Senpai have more goals to achieve on his date with her? We don’t need to worry about Nagatoro gobbling up Paisen’s virginity. And a kiss might be too much to hope for. But what about holding hands on purpose? Those two accidentally clasped hands when Senpai tried to thwart Nagatoro’s sleeve-tugging technique. Lovey-dovey hand-holding could be the best way to end the Miss Nagatoro season.
Heh.
Miss Nagatoro recaps the last episode for the crucial parts: Just date already! Can Senpai make his dream date ideas come true? Sack up, Senpai! I enjoy watching Senpai still adjusting his glasses when he’s nervous. His glasses have been gone for a long time now. No good. Senpai has a failure mindset. Instead of envisioning scenarios where Nagatoro rejects his dating request, he should imagine how she says “yes.” He is right, though. Nagatoro would start with the “creepy, creepy” reaction before calming down. Ahahaha! “Sana-nee-san” still wears a bunny suit! Her motorcycle helmet has bunny ears! Ha! Sunomiya has no chill. She spilled Senpai’s tea into Sana’s ear as soon as possible! The Demon Love Nest is falling apart! Sana echoes her younger cousin’s message. Just date already!
Bold Senpai! He’s waiting for Nagatoro. It’s not stalking! Har. Nagatoro calls Sunomiya a “mini-bunny.” Aw. The baka couple of Miss Nagatoro realizes how their new schedules mess with “convenient” quality time. There’s the episode title: Nagatoro asks, “Don’t you miss me, Senpai?” No weaksauce answers! Be ambitious, Senpai! Nagatoro wishes they had a place to hang out beside the art club room. They might need to arrange a time and place to do that. What’s that called? A date!
Miss Nagatoro needs to toy with Senpai before he says the magic phrase. Her choices of extreme locations are how she goads Senpai into choosing a date spot. How did he get the idea that Nagatoro likes betting on animals? He deserved a swat for suggesting dog fighting. But Senpai did pick up on how she wanted to see penguins at the South Pole, so why not the aquarium? He asked the right way, so, of course, Nagatoro answered, “yes.” Uh oh. The Nagatoro Friends happened to watch the exchange! Hijinks opportunities arrive for Gamou. The eye-catchers show Senpai’s dreams invaded by extreme dating and Sunomiya receiving a bunny helmet of her own.
Nagatoro’s walk home with Senpai put her in a good mood the next day. Let’s all do the “creepy-creepy” dance! Sunomiya has intense congratulations for Senpai. Gamou worries about Paisen’s virginity. Why? Did she want to take it first? I don’t believe that. Fun. Sunomiya met the Nagatoro Friends. She calls them “Yankees.” Miss Nagatoro sets up the cascade of comedic catastrophes for Senpai’s date with Nagatoro. The Bunny Girls will interfere with the Love Nest Demons that seek to interfere with Nagatoro’s “meal.”
Har! Anetoro wants her little sister to dress “sexier” for her date! The day of truth. And Senpai looks fashionable waiting by a “WcDonald’s.” Nagatoro went for the cute tomboy look. Two teams of interlopers spy on the aquarium date, but will the baka couple find out?
Next time, the Miss Nagatoro season finale goes on a date!
Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro S2 (Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san 2nd Attack) streams on Crunchyroll and VRV.
Paisen’s virginity might not be on the menu, but the J-List store has an array of pure snacks for the hungry virgin hunter. How about the Moshimo Yankee Girl Virgin? Gamou-chan better keep her away from Paisen!
