PSYCHO-PASS 3 is nearing its conclusion quickly, yet the cast and crew are still providing commentary. This time we’re getting to hear a bit from Ayane Sakura, the voice talent behind Mika Shimotsuki. Find out how Sakura relates to the character, her tactic for voicing Shimotsuki, and opinions on the show as a whole!
As with our previous commentary with the writers, this is a translated interview from Moca-News which took place on November 20th (shortly after episode 5 aired in Japan). It is not associated with past interviews conducted by J-List.
Interviewer: Please tell us what is important when you play Shimotsuki.
Sakura: Shimotsuki isn’t afraid to be disliked for her idea of justice. Each person (voice actor) has their own way of doing things. Although I can’t sympathize with Shimotsuki’s personality I also can’t deny her character. So I’m just voicing Shimotsuki the way I want to.
Interviewer: Your character is a member of the Criminal Affairs Division of the Public Security Bureau, where there are many strong members. What do you think of the changes?
Sakura: The members have been replaced, but I feel this was necessary given the team’s characteristics. However, I personally would like to hear what others think of it.
Interviewer: This season is a little different. Fans are enjoying a great run with an extended runtime from last season. Each episode is an hour-long. What did you think when you heard about the change in episode length?
Sakura: I was excited! I think they are trying to make PSYCHO-PASS into a full-fledged crime-drama! Maybe the time will come when animation is on par with TV dramas.
Interviewer: Since starting in 2012, the PSYCHO-PASS series has been widely developed between anime, movies, stage plays, etc. What impression did you have of the series as a whole? What do you think is most charming about it?
Sakura: Of course, I like the charm of the characters and the detailed plots, and I like cyberpunk imagery that makes full use of CGI. Although it is not a peaceful view of the world. I think that PSYCHO-PASS has some kind of fear factor that this could, in fact, become our world someday.
Interviewer: Do you have a special message for those watching this new season?
Sakura: PSYCHO-PASS has been running for a long time now, and I’m glad people are still enjoying it. I hope this will continue. Thanks to everyone who wanted more from this series. Whether you are new to the series or not, please join us in watching.
