Episode 14 — “Calorie Lovers”
Plus-Sized Elf Makes Me Go Heh.
I love a well-structured tale, even when I find one in an ecchi short anime making fun of nukige visual novels. And that’s what Plus-Sized Elf did in its second Blu-ray special. The episode eased the audience into its alternate setting, starring Naoe as a high school harem king.
He woke up with bandages on his face, matching the formula of a boy in an afterschool martial arts club. His friends acted as if he had amnesia and reminded him of their roles as childhood friends and potential girlfriends. Naoe started talking to them as his character from the previous episodes but reverted to Naoe, the high school boy. The audience saw Elfuda and Kuroeda without elf ears!
And the Plus-Sized Elf framing showed you how dreamlike the circumstances were in a wish-fulfillment manner. Each monster girl had their personality traits but acted as his harem member in love with Naoe. And Naoe began to remember the high school girls as their visual novel versions. Very much a nocturnal fantasy. The foreshadowing was there from the beginning for Satero’s last stab at revenge. The final scene of Satero and Kuroeda lying in the same position on top of Naoe as the episode’s first scene completed the bookend set. That’s good narrative building!
Plus-Sized Elf Gives You a Chubby… Chaser’s Wet Dream
What is going on? Naoe is smaller, and the elf girls have no pointy ears! And have different names than the polite forms Naoe uses. Is this a high school harem rom-com anime now? Naoe’s childhood friends, Elfuda and Kuroeda, usually crawl into his bed. Convenient. “El” and “Chloe” walk to school together with Naoe. The music sounds like looping visual novel background stuff. OH! It’s the intro to Calorie Lovers! The “flabulous” new rom-com. That instantly reminded me of Princess Lover!.
Pudgy Puns and Suspicious Spelling
Hilarious! The monster girls’ actual names in Plus-Sized Elf are the high school girls’ surnames. El Elfuda and Chloe Kuroeda make sense, but the other girls have creative replacements. Of course. Elfuda is still eating french fries, even on the way to school in the morning. Ohoho! El has french fries on her panties. “Melody” Mero is a tomboy. “Hana” Kusahanada has a flower name. Obscure “Iberiko” Oku refers to the black Iberian pig (イベリコ豚, iberiko buta). “Kotsue” Honeda uses the pronunciation for 骨 (kotsu — bone, skeleton) and 江 (e). These girls also notice how Naoe, the adult, talks to them politely.
Here come four more Plus-Sized Elf monster girls! Har. Raika is just Raika. Hoho. Satero’s name is “Pure.” Hitome, the cyclops, has Ai (eye), and Gonda has ドラ子 (Draco). Oops. The childhood friends raced ahead of their classmates for harem points. They all take turns staying at “Tomo-kun’s” place while his mother is away. Sounds familiar, huh? Somehow, the high school girl version of Gonda still speaks inside everyone’s heads. No surprises: “Chloe” is the class president. Hahaha! Ooeda is the homeroom teacher, and her name, Hyouka, sounds like part of the pronunciation for 過大評価 (overrating — kadaihyouka). “Hyouka-sensei” also belongs to Naoe’s harem.
Choose Your Own Plus-Sized Elf Harem Zombie Adventure
Oh good. Calorie Lovers remembered to give the viewers nipple fanservice. These harem members are so competitive! Oho. See? Even a fictitious version of Plus-Sized Elf knows Kuroeda is the best girl. But a harem king gets no respite until he pursues a route. Naoe can’t have a dozen fiancés in Japan.
Uh oh. Oga is Naoe’s mother! Huh? Kobo baby called him “Papa!” Things are going crazy here. How will Plus-Sized Elf ramp this absurdity up? Ah. A zombie apocalypse would do it. I love this turn to Calories of the Dead! Naoe’s sexy dream turned into a nightmare. Don’t eat unvetted diet supplements, people!
Nice. This was the only end we could have had. Satero gave Naoe a dream, but oddly, no eating. Do zombies eating you count? Oh! Because Kuroeda caught Satero mid-fantasy and turned it into a nightmare! Join the chubby girl challenge! Which Plus-Sized Elf tan girl has the better magic? Snapping panty straps vs. pure, innocent mind break — who ya got? No one. They both lose, but the audience wins! Look at that. Kuroeda and Satero smother Naoe the same way his harem fantasy started. The End!
