From nendoroids, to figmas, to the most detailed PVC statues, buying merch from your favorite anime series or franchise is a top thing for otakus. Buying original merch is already rewarding because you have invested in your favorite series. But what would happen if they just suddenly melt?
The summer heat is slowly peaking in Japan and it is also a reminder that it not only ourselves that we need to keep safe from the scorching sun and keeping cool. We also need to make sure that our beloved merch is safe.

Last weekend, a Twitter user named @taco_handmade posted pictures of their Doraemon figure melted due to the heat. From the solid loving robot cat figure, he had melted away into a puddled mess.
The tweet was massively shared online. Later on, @taco_handmade then made a follow-up tweet to the treading story. It was to find out that the Doraemon figure wasn’t really solid at all in the first place.

The Twitter user bought a tub of “Mysterious Goop” in a 100-yen store, Daiso, and the color really matched Doraemon’s. The original blue body pieces from the Doraemon model kit were unused but put the character’s facial features, hands, feet, and stomach into the modified goo body.
@taco_handmade is notable online for making handmade creations. Their recent tweet also reveals some of the stuff they made and modified.
それから宣伝していいって聞いたから!わたし普段はビーズやレース編んだりプラモ組んだりしておりまして、もし手芸模型その他おもろいもん好きでこいつ気があうなっておもたら、ぜひフォローくださいお友達になりまそ!

Although this news seemed to be like a false alarm of sorts, it does give you the possibility of what would happen if your merch is greatly exposed to the sudden heat. Be sure to keep your room at decent room temperature and be sure that the shelves aren’t too exposed to the sun. It would be really heartbreaking if they did get damaged—or worse, melted.
