Have you ever watched a show and thought, “This needs more fan service?” Well, that’s a thought I’m confident you won’t have during the second episode of Makina-san a Love Bot?!
Most hentai have less nudity than the second episode of Kakushite! Makina-san!!. You need to commend a show that keeps its heroine in the nude for 97 percent of the time. However, that makes me wonder what the fan service threshold will look like after this show. Makina-san a Love Bot?! is setting an extremely high bar on nudity in anime, and that’s a bar that will be hard to replicate or exceed. This episode was so full of tit and ass shots that it gifted my life another twelve years.
Makina-san a Love Bot?!, Episode 2
A pseudo-ethical construct that proposes that if you save a life, you’re responsible for it. If you seek its origin, you’ll encounter discussions about whether it’s a Hollywood invention or ancient Chinese philosophy. Regardless of who came up with the concept, it’s one in which Eita finds himself.
After Makina settles into Eita’s home, the poor lad confronts the consequences of his actions. Eita saved Makina-san, but that kindness doesn’t negate the fact that a sexbot needs to be lewd. So, like it or not, Eita is now the target of her affection. However, a problem arises — Makina knows little about sex! And what little she does know pertains to BL manga. Unfortunately for Makina, that’s forbidden knowledge that one can’t use in a straight relationship.
Makina is so desperate to take Eita’s virginity that she pushes him to the ground and mounts him like a rodeo bull. But alas, at the end of it all, the mecha otaku is as flaccid as a slug. And that’s a problem for Makina, as she needed to drain his seed to keep him quiet about her identity. Or at least that’s what she thought. But Eita is a gentleman, so not only did he agree to keep her identity a secret, but he preserved her chastity. And how is he rewarded for that? She moved in.

The Horny Gets the Bonk
Given the level of nudity in this episode, it handled the topic quietly. The nudity simply exists. It serves as both a focal point and a background vibe worthy of applause. But with so much nudity, you’d expect Makina-sana Love Bot?!, Episode 2, to be a hyper-sexual dream. But as ecchi shows go, it was pretty tame. In fact, this episode was outright comedic.
That statement would make some people rush to Twitter to tell me I wouldn’t laugh if you reversed their genders. But my brethren in Christ, I blew out my voice twice last year. The first was due to laughing at the Magia Baiser/Magia Magenta fight (Maho Ako), and the second was at Kazuma perving on Chris (KonoSuba). Improper content is the best way to get a laugh out of me.
Makina-san a Love Bot?! — Additional Thoughts
Makina-san a Love Bot?! does a stellar job presenting a meek MC. I’m the first to hate on a dense/indecisive MC when a girl he loves throws herself at him, and he spasms out. But here, you don’t get that formula — instead, you get a guy who turns down a girl because he likes/loves her. His actions, while “wimpy,” have a lot of merit in this situation.
Sometimes, you have to back away from a sexual encounter because you respect that person. There are plenty of reasons — but the most frequent are power dynamics and desperation. If a person is in a position where they’re entirely dependent on you, sex should not be an option. Likewise, if a person wants to do it because it’s a distraction, that’s not a decent idea either. Eita seems to realize this. And that drives him to keep rejecting her, not only to try and protect her modesty but because he knows it won’t be an affectionate shag. But that same love keeps him from forcefully rejecting her.
At the same time, there’s only so much sexual tension that can build up until things spill over. The flashpoint is never far away when romantic feelings join that mix. So, I don’t think we’d have to wait long to see it happen. So, fingers crossed that we get a sexy scene or two down the line.

Production Notes
Tomoyo Takayanagi is voicing Makina-san and Oguri Cap in Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray, and those roles are antithetical. Any reader who’s watched both shows understands the depth of that statement. Tomoyo’s vocal range, cadence, and inflection are surreal. If you watched Flower and Asura last season, recall Pokoko teaching Hana how to convey falling rain. That scene eloquently captured the importance of simplicity. Often, you don’t need to give a convoluted performance to breathe life into a character. Tomoyo lives by this. She makes the characters she voices sound like real people, like someone you’d converse with.
One look at Makina-san, and you can tell they treated her design with love. They make sure that their AI princess’s expressions endear you to her. I have no idea where the “that damn smile” meme came from, but now I understand it. I can’t see Makina smiling without my smile shining. They blend moe and sexiness perfectly, and I love them for it.

Pitfalls
For all its splendor, Makina-san a Love Bot?! seems to be getting much less hype than other season ecchi shows. The fact that this show isn’t as popular depicts the pitfalls of availability. Had Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. been on Crunchyroll, it would have been a fan-favorite seasonal. But its streaming service relegated it to a second-class, under-the-radar show. While I love OceanVeil and what they’re building, the fact that Makina-san a Love Bot?! is on what most people consider a hentai site is its doom. The site’s limited content and surplus of R18 titles will work against heavily ecchi shows like this. But I hope this show eventually ends up on more people’s watchlists. Likewise, I hope traditional streaming services feel comfortable having more lascivious content on their sites one day.
However, given the state of the world and where it’s heading, that’s a pipe dream. Idiocracy and Shimoneta are less satire and more social commentary at this point. Oh well, the best we can do is stock up on uncensored titles, ecchi waifu artwork, and lewd maid figures before the government comes to take it all away. The fact that this joke may not be a joke for much longer is a truly terrifying prospect.
