The Kandagawa Jet Girls make a trip to Akihabara. New rivals take away Misa and Rin’s practice time on the Kandagawa River.
#5 – “Pop Idol Racers”
Hmm.
Misa continues her character development with the usual two steps forward, one step back approach to relationship building in this week’s Kandagawa Jet Girls.
We’re still seeing the imagery of crossing a threshold as a metaphor for Misa reaching out to Rin. The cool and confident Misa is out of her element when trying to push through her nervousness at making a connection. The act of exchanging phone information became the symbol of this chapter in Misa’s growing emotional maturity, and I’m sure we’ll see her reach that goal after the race with the twin idols is over with. However, Misa still has some work to do, and she retreated to her dark place after her failure in admitting to Rin that she wanted to spend time with her.
Rin is having some issues with Misa too, but they all stem from Misa’s emotional clumsiness. Rin’s symbol of their yuri wedding ring is definitely that cutesy “Kandagawa Jet Girls” logo with both of their faces in it. Since Misa needs to project an air of independence, even the notion of others seeing a cute side of her, like that logo would surely do, is too much for her self-image. Rin can only take what Misa says at face value, because she doesn’t know Misa has that vulnerable aspect yet. If she knew Misa raced so hard to beat the Unkai Surfers just so their little dolphin straps would be a complementing pair, Rin would have a better chance at interpreting Misa’s behavior as asking for a little nudge from her friend. Of course, that comes with risking many more lovey-dovey tackles from Rin, but we all know Misa enjoys the attention. I certainly would welcome more yuri hugging and snuggling from the Kandagawa Jet Girls.
Heh.
So yuri! Rin and Misa have become one! The other girls wanted be invited to the wedding! This is news to Misa!
Yay! There’s the Kandagawa Jet Girls logo! Misa loves it, but she can’t say it out loud. She also likes it because the two of them are together.
Yamada-sensei wants dating advice… Rin even made a cutesy model of where to put the logos on the Orcano! She’s awesome! Are Rin’s begging eyes going to work on an embarrassed Misa?
This is going to annoy me. The girls say and the Japanese words on the official Kandagawa Jet Girls site spells their names Tsui and Tina, but the English is written Ziyu and Dina. “Tsui” makes so much more sense because of the puns she makes with “Sweet Angel” and “Twin Tail.” Fine. I’ll write out Ziyu and Dina, but my inner voice will say Tsui and Tina.
Hoh. Misa can’t get enough of Rin’s backside! Uh oh. The simulator broke right when they were on the Kandagawa, so they have to go to Akiba for cheap electronics, like normies instead of filthy otaku. Ahem. Kiriko the mechanic knows where to go. Aww. Look at that Misa pout. She wants a hug from Rin too. Kiriko says “Stay, stay!” at Rin as if she were a playful puppy.
Kiriko is pretty touchy-feely with Rin on this shopping trip. Misa is jealous!
Alright! The American Samurai have returned. Emily and Jennifer are there to make Misa even more jealous. Of course, these two are huge fans of Hell’s Kitchen. In case you forgot their last names, Emily and Jennifer had helpful colors for their backgrounds. Wow. Misa is almost as tall as Emily and Jennifer is almost as short as Rin. It’s so nice that the Unkai Surfers are now friendly rivals with the Kandagawa Jet Girls.
Oh, good. Back to the twin idols. That extra week of work didn’t let the editors catch a floating element of teen idols on a fake beach background. Misa doesn’t think the idols care about Jet Racing, but the twins say they would rather be speeding over the water. Misa isn’t a good judge of character… Emily and Jennifer know they have skills.
Disaster! Kiriko has Rin’s telephone number before Misa does!
Aw. Ziyu gets her turn in the eye catch. What happened to Emily and Jennifer? I guess we’ll have to wait another couple of weeks.
Uh oh. Misa got herself in trouble because she wasn’t open about her feelings. Rin has a threesome date without her because she said she didn’t want to see an idol performance. Hina’s mom knows Rin messed up.
Even worse disaster! Jennifer has Rin’s phone number! I’m getting old, because I worry whether these girls are wearing earplugs in that loud club.
The Pan twins would rather be sweating on the Kandagawa River, but on the couch backstage is a good runner-up. Twincest is wincest!
Misa is so socially awkward — practicing in the mirror just to exchange phone numbers. Whoa. Simulated rubber dolphin paizuri in the bathtub with Rin. First twincest, now paizuri. What kind of show is this? The best kind! Hey, this dolphin has the same hair highlights as Misa! It’s a clue that Misa wants to motorboat Rin! I knew it!
Eh? Those idols stole the Kandagawa Jet Girls’s river time? I blame the association more than them, though. Oh, and nice. Rin still has trouble with that suit containing her chest full of awesomeness. Rin’s not giving up on having both their faces on the Orcano. They’re meant to be together! But honestly, Rin’s drawings are really cute.
It’s time for another race on the Kandagawa. The idols are playing bad girls. Not every racing pair can be nice like Emily and Jennifer, I suppose. Misa was a bit surprised at Rin defend her shooting skills, but she shouldn’t be. Here we go again. Exhibition match!
Aqua and Syoco go to the same school as the idols and Syoco is the president of their fan club! Aqua is the vice president. It’s Team Rin Solo vs. Hell’s Kitchen. Rin looks like she’s flying mad instead of flying casual. There’s going to be some DRAMA between Misa and Rin next episode.
TO BE CONTINUED… Well, yeah. It’s only the 5th episode.
Next time, those flashy gals show up! And it looks like the swimsuit episode too. I can’t wait!
