What if terrifying and beautiful high fantasy villains gathered to defeat the forces of light? The Swamp Witch from Queen’s Blade — capable of conquering death itself — amassed a formidable force under her. She brought great mages and warriors to her side. Raine Sage from Tales of Symphonia now rises to meet her challenge and unite high fantasy heroines to save our cultured way of life. Here are my recommendations for Raine’s otherworldly army.
1. Raine Sage (Tales of Symphonia)
You can’t have a group of high fantasy heroines without an elf girl in a leading position. Raine is a cute and studious elf girl. She and her brother Genis have overcome a traumatic childhood to become heroes of two worlds. Though Raine specializes in healing magic, she is more than capable of unleashing offensive spells such as Photon and Ray. Raine’s intellectual gifts have allowed her to understand and manipulate advanced magitechnology to aid her and her friends.
Namco Tales Studio published the original Tales of Symphonia video game on August 29th, 2003. Ufotable’s anime adaptation premiered on June 8th, 2007.
Raine studied the magitechnology found in the planet-sized base Derris-Kharlan and briefly saw Pronyma revived and summoned away. The great spirit Martel informed her of The Swamp Witch’s schemes. She also showed Raine how she could travel to worlds beyond the united Sylvarant to stop the gathering villainesses.
2. Aldra (Queen’s Blade)
Aldra is the former Queen. She won the Queen’s Blade tournament twice in a row. However, her victories were not entirely her own. A terrible demon possessed her, causing her to act ruthlessly and cruelly toward even her own allies. She definitely earned her spot on Santa’s Naughty List. Aldra finally lost in combat, freeing her from the demon’s possession. Her kind personality and mature appearance finally returned. Though she desires to be a simple wife and ferrywoman, the battlefield calls her and her warrior self stands again. She might have been a villainess before, but she’s a high fantasy heroine now.
Queen’s Blade first began its sexy tournament as a series of visual combat books published by Hobby Japan. Studio ARMS’s anime adaptation premiered on April 2nd, 2009.
Raine would call upon her to fight in the upcoming battle. Not only was she versed in the dark arts of her world but her time as the Queen made her a formidable ally. She would be familiar with The Swamp Witch and her schemes.
3. Deedlit (Record of Lodoss War)
Deedlit is a legendary classic high fantasy heroine, she’s brave, and a charming elf girl from the spirit world. She is graceful albeit haughty and has used her martial and magical skills to defeat many evil beings in the world. Deedlit fought alongside her love interest Parn to face enemies such as Ashram, Wagnard, and even the dragon Shooting Star.
Ryo Mizuno released the original Record of Lodoss War novel series between April 10th, 1988, and March 27th, 1993. Kadokawa Shoten released all seven volumes and two side stories in the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. Studio Madhouse’s anime adaptation premiered on June 30th, 1990.
Deedlit’s experience facing different world-ending threats would be an asset in battle. She has experience fighting Karla and her followers, making her an ideal recruit for Raine’s efforts. Raine and Deedlit would get along as fellow scholarly elves.
4. Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End)
Frieren is a legendary hero whose longevity gave her a detached attitude. She realized too late that many of her close friends had died of old age, leaving her alone and dateless. Frieren continued her travels after one of those friends — Himmel — passed on. She wants to settle old scores and see Himmel again in a faraway land. It took a while, but she has a hunch that his feelings for her were real.
Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe released the original Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga series on April 28th, 2020. Shogakukan published twelve volumes in Weekly Shonen Sunday afterward. Studio Madhouse’s anime adaptation premiered on September 29th, 2023.
Frieren would happily join Raine to face Aura and her new allies. She had defeated Aura before, and she didn’t ignore her threats. Himmel the Brave would have done it. Raine would be pleased to learn more about such a unique elf.
5. Mirajane Strauss (Fairy Tail)
Mirajane is as beautiful as she is magical. She is a proud member of the Fairy Tail guild who has ventured out to complete requests and save innocent lives from dark mages such as the Dark Guild Tartaros. Her Take Over ability changes her form and grants her different magical abilities. Mirajane typically uses Satan Soul for its enhanced physical abilities and energy-based attacks.
Hiro Mashima began to write and illustrate the original Fairy Tail manga series on August 2nd, 2006. Kodansha has since released 78 volumes across the different Fairy Tail manga series. A-1 Pictures’ anime adaptation premiered on October 12th, 2009.
Mirajane would be quite eager to take on Seilah once again and thwart her plans a second time. She wouldn’t permit evil to travel between multiple worlds. Mirajane might also want to update Raine’s more conservative attire with something that would fit in at the Fairy Tail guild.
