Mother’s Day is the yearly celebration of great moms. These matrons of the home soothe souls and inspire greatness. This remains the same whether we’re discussing real life or anime. However, anime is much more fun, so let’s show due respect to anime moms.
1. Zenith Greyrat (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation)
Zenith is Paul’s exceptionally patient wife and Rudeus’s loving mother. Her magical abilities were enhanced after the infamous Teleport Incident. Zenith was encased in a mana crystal and gained the Miko’s telepathy. Though her emotions became more subdued, she still retains the love and affection of a mother.
Rifujin na Magonote posted the original Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation novel on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro between November 22nd, 2012, and April 3rd, 2015. Media Factory obtained the publishing rights and hired the artist Shirotaka to adapt the series to a light novel format. The MF Books imprint published 25 volumes from January 24th, 2014, to November 25th, 2022.
2. Chi-Chi (Dragon Ball Z)
Chi-Chi is one of the classic anime mothers. She dearly loves her husband Goku and ensures their children Gohan and Goten keep up with their studies. However, Chi-Chi is famous for her temper, a fury that inspires fear in even Goku.
Akira Toriyama wrote and drew the initial run of his seminal Dragon Ball manga series from December 3rd, 1984, to June 5th, 1995. Shueisha published all 42 volumes in Weekly Shonen Jump.
3. Sango (InuYasha)
Sango is a skilled demon hunter. Her clan was brought to ruin by the evil demon Naraku. She joined Inuyasha’s party to defeat a mutual foe. The lecherous Buddhist monk Miroku made constant efforts to charm her. He eventually succeeded, and the two had children.
Rumiko Takahashi wrote and illustrated the original manga series between November 13th, 1996, and June 18th, 2008. Shogakukan published all 56 volumes in the pages of Weekly Shonen Sunday.
4. Azusa Aizawa (I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level)
Azuza is a unique entry to our anime mother list. She has technically never given birth, but her actions did give birth to twins. The hatred of the slimes she spent centuries hunting manifested living beings: Shalsha and Falfa. Shalsha intended to exact revenge for the slimes, but Falfa merely wanted to be with their “mother.” In the end, both girls joined Azuza as her daughters.
Kisetsu Morita posted the original I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years novel to Shosetsuka ni Naro between June 23rd, 2016, and November 18th, 2021. SB Creative obtained the publishing rights and hired the artist Benio to adapt the series to a light novel format. This new run began on January 14th, 2017, in the GA Novel imprint, publishing 24 volumes since.
5. Sanae Furukawa (Clannad)
Sanae is Nagisa’s mother and Ushio’s grandmother. She is a former teacher who currently runs a bakery with her husband. Sanae’s bread-making skills are famously lacking. She helped to take care of Ushio after Nagisa passed away and conspired to reconnect Ushio with her father, Tomoya.
Key, Jun Maeda, and Itaru Hinoue developed and released the original Clannad visual novel on April 28th, 2004.
