Everyone has a type. Maybe you enjoy the quiet girl who doesn’t show her emotions on her sleeve, or the shy and submissive type who does everything they’re told. Maybe you’re someone who’s into the good ol’ fashioned tsundere, and you really want to read a story where their uptight and haughty demeanor is broken down for a change. Thanks to the latest hentai anthology Lovely by the incredible artist Kyockcho, readers interested in that particular fantasy can have their wishes come true.
It’s a shame that there are only four colored pages in Lovely, coming together in the form of a brisk 4-page opening chapter. Miki-chan is a member of the Public Morals Committee at her highschool. She’s also dating a rambunctious boy with a big libido who invited her over to his house on a particular day when his parents wouldn’t be home. She had an inkling of what to expect from this invitation, but was thrown for a loop when her boyfriend ended up busting out a plethora of wild sex toys for them to try out. With her arms bound to the bedframe, her legs in shackles, and vibrators attached to her nipples, Miki’s boyfriend spends the next few pages toying with her playfully as she screams in frustrated ecstasy.
The story is quick and doesn’t spend too long dwelling on the characters before getting right into the action. We get some info in the first few panels, as well as a silly set of ending panels where she gets her revenge on him by turning the tables. Still, the highlight of this Lovely scenario is the gorgeous color artwork by Kyockcho. Miki has a gorgeous, slender body with petite yet perky breasts that I couldn’t get enough of. The light, peachy tone of her skin and her silky black hair add a lot to the already incredible art, and there’s wonderful attention to detail in the shading and background details that add a sense of depth to the artwork.
Even though there are only a handful of colored pages to enjoy in this book, the remainder of the black and white content is still absolutely sublime. While there are only nine chapters in Lovely, each one features a totally unique protagonist and scenario that added variety to the anthology. There isn’t a wild amount of variety in the body types that Kyockcho draws; one girl might have thicker thighs or a slightly larger chest if anything. These minor body differences coincide with different personalities, faces, and hairstyles to create a cast that still feels delightfully diverse.
Not to mention, the overall art style presented in Lovely is such a treat to look at. Character’s faces are soft and feminine, but also extremely expressive and amplify every scene. The anatomy of each girl is feathered with realistic detail that adds to their eroticism, with things like visible collar bones or the bend of muscle between an arm and armpit adding enjoyable detail to each panel.
While each chapter in Lovely is a separate story, there’s a common theme of girls having the tables turned on them, and being put into wildly sexy scenarios despite their initially shy or standoffish demeanor. A great example of that theme is the aptly titled chapter “I Tied Up My Tsundere Girlfriend.” In this chapter, a young man is frustrated by the fact that he keeps losing in a fighting game to his girlfriend, the stone-faced smack-talker Yukari, who does nothing but play video games. Seeing her boyfriend wallow in defeat, she foolishly makes him a promise; if he can manage to beat her in the next match, she’ll grant him one wish and do whatever he wants.
With the deal made, the boyfriend activates his true potential. Driven by his demonic levels of horniness, he manages to demolish Yukari and beat her in the blink of an eye. The boyfriend immediately decides to shackle Yukari’s arms to a chair, and begins busting out a variety of vibrators to tease her with. She has no idea what any of the toys are, and has barely ever done anything beyond regular sex, so her tsundere facade is quickly broken as she experiences unrivaled levels of pleasure and torment for the first time.
While the first chapter in Lovely was also focused on a tsundere girl being tormented with toys by her horny boyfriend, it was only four pages in length compared to the far meatier 20 page run of “I Tied Up My Tsundere Girlfriend.” The length allows this story to explore every aspect of the action with far greater detail. We get multiple pages of setup that establish the hilarious and fun relationship between Yukari and her boyfriend, and we also get to see the haughty way she normally behaves. Once the toy action starts, seeing her slowly lose her composure and give in to pleasure as more and more toys are introduced made this chapter an absolutely iconic part of the anthology.
Another highlight of the volume is a romantic chapter titled “Hide & Seek.” In this, a group of high schoolers is on an overnight trip at an inn. Ryou-kun is on the trip with his tall and curvy girlfriend Hina, but they’ve yet to do anything naughty together since becoming a couple. Ryou decides to sneak into the girl’s dorm while Hina is alone to get a kiss from her, but when the rest of the girls suddenly return the couple is forced to hide in the storage closet. Ryou isn’t ready to abandon his mission, though, and decides to kiss Hina. Naturally, though, a kiss isn’t enough for him. He begins touching her and feeling her soft body, and soon discovers that despite her shy demeanor, she’s really enjoying what’s happening. As all of her friends gab about the lovebirds just outside, the two go all the way and engage in all sorts of naughty action in secret while they’re hidden in the storage room.
While a good amount of the stories in Lovely focus on confident or tsundere girls, “Hide & Seek” was a nice change of pace for focusing on a shy and seemingly innocent girl. Discovering that she has had just as much of a craving for naughty action as her boyfriend, though, elevated this story in a great way. Plus, this chapter was an incredible showcase for the gorgeous artwork of Kyockcho. Hina is absolutely beautiful, with curvy hips, soft breasts, and an all-around incredible body that made each panel a treat to look at. There’s a lot of great stuff in Lovely, but this chapter, in particular, ends up being a highlight of the entire experience.
Lovely is a great collection of fun and naughty hentai action. I was a little let down by the lack of full-color pages, especially considering how gorgeous the few that this book has actually are. Still, even without color, the art of Kyockcho and his incredible characters shine in this must-own anthology.
