There’s an old adage that says there’s a time and place for everything. But is there ever a time for adultery? If Chuhai Lips (Hitozuma no Kuchibiru wa Kan Chuuhai no Aji ga Shite) can answer that question, it’s a loud and confident YES! But how does a five-minute-long, hentai-esque anime hold up against the absolute cinema that Summer 2025 has to offer? Here’s a hint: very, very badly.
Before Chuhai Lips, I hadn’t heard of Studio Raiose. A quick check on MAL showed that they don’t have any other titles to their name. I visited the Raiose website to see if MAL had forgotten to list their other titles, and I was greeted by the most generic-looking DEI website I’ve ever seen. I’d bet that an underpaid IT tech made this website with stock images and $50. Everything associated with Chuhai Lips is “meh” at best.
Chuhai Lips — A Short Synopsis
Tsuyoshi lives a life that reflects that of many other 22-year-olds. He divides his time between his university, his part-time job, and the monotony of daily routines. His life remains uneventful, and he spends his free time in his dingy apartment. When Yui Koriyama, a married woman he has always admired, spends the night at his place, they indulge in one too many canned chuhais. And then things take a heated direction, and Tsuyoshi finds himself enjoying the illicit thrill of being intimate with someone already bound to another.
Erotica vs. Hentai — Two Sides of the Same Horny?
Have you ever wondered at what point an anime becomes hentai?
Since you’re reading this on J-List, I know that you have. I always explain that if something is meant to entertain, it’s an anime. If it’s meant to stimulate, it’s hentai. Of course, there are some nuances. Shows like Gushing Over Magical Girls and Interspecies Reviewers were crafted to stimulate. But there’s an overarching plot in those shows, there’s more to them than horniness. Interspecies Reviewers has the same “Erotica” tag that Chuhai Lips has. But anyone who’s watched Ishuzoku Reviewers knows that it earns its “comedy” and “fantasy” tags. Chuhai Lips, on the other hand, has nothing going for it apart from its erotic nature.
The only thing that happens in this anime is that Tsuyoshi shags and moves on. We don’t see the aftermath of his sexual escapades, which removes all the drama or associated entertainment from the anime. Look at something like Domestic Girlfriend. There’s a lot of eroticism in it, but the drama is always at the vanguard. We can’t say the same about Chuhai Lips. If you’re looking for a show that is a wanton celebration of infidelity or a quick, pervy fix, Chuhai Lips is definitely for you. However, even for veteran ecchi fans like myself, it’s not worth the five minutes you’ll spend watching it. You’d be better off reading something like Succubus-Chan vs Evil Futanari Ex-Girlfriend Corps or watching Harem Camp.
Chuhai Lips — Production Notes
I haven’t read the Chinjao Musume (story) and Tama Nogami (art) manga that Chuhai Lips is based on, so I can’t comment on how the anime’s art compares to the manga. However, I can tell you that the anime’s art isn’t winning any awards. By no metric is this the worst animation I’ve seen. It’s at least better than My Sister, My Writer. But that’s a low bar to clear.
I watched the first two episodes three times (the things I subject myself to for these reviews), and I can’t remember any scene music. Once upon a time, my dream was to be a touring musician. Then I actually toured and realized it wasn’t for me. But that fondness for music means I quickly pick up on a show’s scene music and OST. I can’t remember any here, and that speaks volumes about its quality.
The show’s sex scenes aren’t the worst I’ve seen. They’re astronomically better than the abominations Queen Bee produces. However, because they are so short, they feel lackluster. The soul of the show’s horniness is admirable, but the animation struggles to keep up. That said, I have to admit that a naked Yui Koriyama is a blessing. Unfortunately, with clothes on, she looks like Peter Griffin. Since this is erotica, don’t expect any genitalia.
At most, I’d give this a 4.5/10. My opinion doesn’t necessarily reflect how others might feel about it. Without a doubt, someone out there can and will enjoy Chuhai Lips. However, if you’ve read my previous reviews and agree with my assessments, you’d do well to skip this one. OceanVeil streams the uncensored version of Chuhai Lips. Kodansha’s YanMaga Web (online manga website) has serialized Chuhai Lips since February 2021. The manga boasts twenty-two ebooks and three tankobon volumes.
