Best Waifu of 2022, As Decided by the J-List Staff

With the year coming to a close, some members of the J-List staff — the writers who provide our fine readers with excellent articles to inform and entertain — came together to determine who we liked best this year. Through many hours of watching anime (and pausing anime at key parts for reasons that need not be explained), a few of the staff have nominated their best waifu of 2022. The fans got to choose, and now it’s our turn.

There is no given order to the list below, and includes only series that premiered this year. If your favorite waifu didn’t make this very subjective list, you can shout them out in the comments below.

Lum – Urusei Yatsura (Justin)

While there is no replacing the original waifu, the 2022 version of Lum from the remake anime series Urusei Yatsura carries the title with pride, distinction, and the signature sexy tiger bikini. She’s still as hot as she is powerful.

Yor Forger – Spy x Family (Brovahkiin)

Really, who didn’t see Yor making this list? The Spy x Family fandom went nuts when this particular waifu, who is an actual wife, appeared on screen. She’s a hot older lady who is both a killer and a doting mother, and she gives off big mommy energy in both personas. There’s plenty more Yor coming in the new year, too.

Hitori Gotoh – Bocchi the Rock (MsqD)

Who doesn’t like rocker girls? Hitori, also called Bocchi, makes for a great rocker waifu in Bocchi the Rock. The pink hair, the silly moments, her ability to shred on the guitar — MsqD made a fine choice here.

Marin Kitagawa – My Dress Up Darling (L.B. Bryant)

We all saw this one coming. The hot gyaru waifu who loves cosplay, and who is absolutely not shy about flaunting her figure. When she showed up wearing that bikini, lewd artists across the world united and began the good work.

Power – Chainsaw Man – (input(VOID))

Scary dangerous waifus are welcome here, and Power from Chainsaw Man fills that role quite nicely. She’s the sort of girl who will massacre your enemies, then say “Sorry, did you want to kill them?” and for that, she makes this list.

Lilith – The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious (joeschmo1of3)

I think we can all agree that maid waifus are the best. Sure, nurses and nuns are also great, but the maid is without peer. Lilith, the mysterious maid with a divine figure, deserves a spot on this or any list. Have you seen her uniform? It gets better in her actual figure form. There is much more to appreciate.

Chisato Nishikigi – Lycoris Recoil (Adrian Salomons)

We’ve discussed cute assassins before, and Chisato is no different. A cute girl with a gun, and the knowledge to use it to mow down terrorists, is always appealing. She’s a hero who risks her life for her new friends and her new café.
