One of the largest and most important events on the anime calendar, AnimeJapan 2025, has come and gone in a flash, dropping surprise announcements and release dates for some of our favorite anime. With over 150,000 participants at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center, we wanted to dive into a vibrant subculture of the anime community and check out some of the cosplay on display at AnimeJapan.
One of the best parts of any anime event is seeing all the beautiful and talented cosplayers bring alive their favorite characters from manga, anime, and video games. Join us today on J-List as we look at some of our favorite cosplay from AnimeJapan 2025!
AnimeJapan’s Best Anime Cosplay
Starting us off today are these matching cosplays from Kakegurui — Compulsive Gambler (a show that accurately defines our spending habits whenever we see a gacha machine).

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was one of the most popular anime shows from the Spring 2023 season, not just for its melancholy storytelling and haunting musical score but also for its excellent character designs, which have been brought to life in these cosplays. Why not rewatch the series before the second season begins airing in 2026?

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- remains as popular as ever, not only because of the anime’s third season but also due to the undeniable charm of its characters, including the twins Ram and Rem and the silver-haired half-elf herself, Emilia. There were plenty of Re:Zero cosplays out and about at AnimeJapan 2025, but these particularly caught our attention.

Some cosplays are always popular because they’re mainstays in the anime community or iconic characters that stick with us no matter where we go. These cosplays from AnimeJapan 2025 from Death Note and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba are beautifully designed and portrayed by their models.

AnimeJapan’s Best Gaming Cosplay
Some of the best character designs come from the recent wave of anime-inspired mobile gacha games, giving cosplayers a breadth of official and fan art to draw upon when putting together their costumes. (Not sure what a gacha game is? Let us explain gacha games in depth!)
Genshin Impact’s latest region of Natlan may be divisive among fans. But there’s no denying these cosplayers have done an incredible job putting together intricate outfits for AnimeJapan, especially this Varesa cosplay — who hadn’t even debuted in-game when photographers shot these photos. That’s some serious dedication, and we hope the cosplayer won their 50/50!

Keeping with the mobile game theme, the free-to-play real-time-strategy game Blue Archive retains its immense popularity fresh off its 2024 anime adaptation, Blue Archive The Animation, produced by Yostar Pictures and Candy Box. The game has prompted plenty of adorable figures and sexy cosplays, perfectly demonstrated by the cosplayers below.

Even though Zenless Zone Zero is one of the newer kids on the block for waifu gacha games, Genshin Impact’s developer, miHoYo, definitely gave into their inner demons when they made ZZZ’s character designs. We’re grateful for it because AnimeJapan brought out incredible cosplays like these ones:

Even More Gaming Cosplay!
Although it’s fast approaching its tenth anniversary in Japan this July, Fate/Grand Order is still going strong, supported by its dedicated fanbase and the connections to the broader Fate franchise created by TYPE-MOON. These cosplayers brought out the cute aspects of their respective characters, especially Abigail’s bear and Mash’s iconic fist pump.
