As an anime blogger, I keep track of the birthdays of certain famous characters so I can wish them a Happy Birthday on Twitter. I realized that yesterday, December 4, was the birthday of Asuka from Evangelion. And not just any birthday, but her in-universe 18th birthday. As Asuka turns 18, it means that fans can now lewd her! For the first time!
Happy birthday do our favorite tsundere redhead, Asuka! Her canon birthday is Dec 4, 2001, so she turns 18 today. We can finally lewd her! pic.twitter.com/lfoiggic2t

Asuka Langley Soryu was born December 4, 2001, in Germany to an American father and a Japanese-German haafu mother, Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu, making her 1/4 German, 1/4 Japanese and half American. Being a genius, she’s already graduated from university by the time the series starts, but she studies with the other students so she can learn kanji properly. In keeping with her red hair, she has a fiery spirit, which she usually directs at poor “baka Shinji.”
But now fan artists are finally free to explore Asuka’s sexual side thanks to her new legal status, for the first time!
“finally”

There are, of course, two Asuka’s in the Evangelion universe. When he rebooted the Evangelion universe for the Rebuild of Evangelion films, creator Hideki Anno changed her name to Asuka Shikinami Langley to reflect the deep changes in her character, as she moved from the classic tsundere trope to a less cliched, more nuanced character.
I wonder how fans are going to celebrate this momentous day?
Haha yeah finally. I definitely never did before. pic.twitter.com/mGxRTyqpsl

If you’re a fan of old-school Gainax anime shows — which I define as anything that came before FLCL — you’ll know that many of the stories explore the subject of psychology and what’s going on in the minds of the characters. This first shows up in some of the story elements of Aim for the Top! Gunbuster as well as a hilariously-named character named Jung Freud. In Evangelion, most of the interesting drama is driven by the internal battles Asuka is going through as the series unfolds. All of this makes her one of the most fascinating characters in all of anime.
So, how are you going to commemorate Asuka’s birthday?
Well Shinji did it first… pic.twitter.com/P1uWIqnjK8
