“April showers bring May flowers” is an old saying. It remains true even in anime. There are plenty of flower girls we can enjoy in May. We can appreciate these girls who are named after flowers or have some relation to them. Truly cultured otaku would want to put their green thumbs to use and help tend the garden of beautiful flowers.
1. Rosemon (Digimon Savers)
Rosemon is a flower girl in both name and aesthetics. Her attacks make use of her rose whip and innumerable rose petals. She’s one of the humanoid Digimon waifus we love so much. She achieves an evolved form through Burst Mode. Fans often refer to it as Bust Mode, but I don’t think she increases her cup size. It’s fun to watch and compare though.
Naoyuki Ito directed and Ryota Yamaguchi wrote Digimon Savers for Toei Animation. This anime series aired from April 2nd, 2006, to March 25th, 2007, in 48 episodes.
2. Erika (Pokémon)
Erika earned the nickname “The Nature-Loving Princess” for her strong affinity for nature. She takes pride in her flower arrangement skills. Erika also serves as the gym leader for Celadon City, where she uses her grass-type Pokémon to battle trainers. She takes her name from the Erica genus of flowering plants.
Satoshi Tajiri collaborated with Tsunekazu Ishihara and Junichi Masuda to create the original Pokémon games, which debuted on February 27, 1996.
3. Flowerfang Kunoichi Etranzer (Yu-Gi-Oh!)
Flowerfang Kunoichi Etranzer isn’t as famous as Dark Magician Girl, but she still deserves her time in the limelight. She’s a cute kunoichi with a flowery aesthetic, as indicated by the sakura petals flying around her. We need more ninja flower girls.
Kazuki Takahashi first released Yu-Gi-Oh! on September 17th, 1996. Since then, multiple series and protagonists have come to save the world by winning card games.
4. BlackRose (.hack//Infection)
BlackRose looks very similar to the .hack//SIGN waifu Mimiru. She took her name from a nightmare she once had. Like Mimiru, she travels through The World to uncover the sinister forces that work against them. Her attire from .hack//XXXX consists of a black rose on the center of her chest. BlackRose appeared in the anime series with Kite and their friends.
Koichi Mashimo directed and Kazunori Ito wrote this series for studio Bee Train. Yuki Kajiura, of course, provided the epic music for the series. .hack//SIGN aired between April 4th, 2002 and September 25th, 2002 in 26 episodes.
5. Hana N. Fountainstand (HaNaYaMaTa)
Hana is a foreigner from America. She once visited Japan and fell in love with yosakoi dancing. Many years later, she moved to Japan and transferred to a Japanese school to form the Yosakoi Club. Hana’s name is taken from the Japanese word for “flower.” Every member of her club has a favorite flower as well. Their songs likewise have a flower theme in the title and lyrics.
Sou Hamayumiba wrote and illustrated the original HaNaYaMaTa manga series from April 23rd, 2011 to February 24th, 2018. Houbunsha published all ten volumes in Manga Time Kirara Forward.
