A good tomboy in anime is a person to be cherished. These cute anime girls don’t dress in fancy clothing. They’re rough-and-tumble girls who can look elegant and fashionable. They don’t always dress in boy’s clothes, but when they do, they still look cute and sexy. Let’s show some tomboys the love they deserve.
1. Tomo Aizawa (Tomo-chan Is a Girl!)
Tomo is such a tomboy that she needs to tell people she’s a girl. She’s desperately in love with her childhood friend Junichirou Kubota. However, her tomboy aura is too strong, and he sees her as only one of the guys. Now she has to win him over as only a tomboy can by proving she’s still a cute anime girl with a very female body.
Fumita Yanagida worked on the original Tomo-chan Is a Girl! manga series from April 7th, 2015, to July 14th, 2019. Kodansha released all eight volumes in Saizensen.
2. Ryuko Matoi (Kill la Kill)
Ryuko is a tough fighter on a quest for revenge. She routinely picks fights with the most dangerous people to find the person who killed her father. Her superpowered suit covers very little of her feminine figure, highlighting her tomboy charm.
Hiroyuki Imaishi directed, and Kazuki Nakashima wrote this anime series for Studio Trigger. 24 episodes and one OVA aired between October 4th, 2013, and March 28th, 2014.
3. Olivier Mira Armstrong (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Olivier is the fierce Ice Queen of Fort Briggs. Her strength is the pride of the Armstrong family. This tomboy is a high-ranking military officer. Try as she might, not even her thick military uniform can hide the thicc figure beneath.
Hiromu Arakawa created her seminal manga series from July 12th, 2001, to June 11th, 2010. Square Enix released all 27 volumes in Monthly Shonen Gangan.
4. Haruka Tenou / Sailor Uranus (Sailor Moon)
Haruka stands as one of the few tomboy Sailor Guardians. She dresses in masculine clothes in ordinary times, but the magic of the Sailor Guardian highlights the pretty tomboy beneath. Though she’s dating Michiru Kaiou / Sailor Neptune, she still tries to pick up Usagi Tsukino / Sailor Moon.
If you want to get your hands on some Sailor Moon physical media, J-List has something on offer. The Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie — First Limited Blu-ray Edition is available for purchase now.
Naoko Takeuchi wrote and illustrated Sailor Moon from December 28th, 1991, to February 3rd, 1997. Kodansha published all eighteen volumes in the pages of Nakayoshi.
5. Akane Tendo (Ranma ½)
Akane takes pride in being a tomboy. She stands out from her older sisters, who consider beauty over strength. Her strength is on par with some of the finest martial artists around. Despite what Ranma says, she’s definitely cute.
The legendary mangaka Rumiko Takahashi created her genderbending series between August 19th, 1987, and March 6th, 1996. Shogakukan published all 35 volumes in the Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine.
