Oni girls are another type of supernatural character archetype. They’re often seen with one or more horns on their heads. These girls also tend to boast superhuman abilities, such as enhanced strength or speed. Oni girls can become truly powerful warriors, but, despite all of that, they can be cute and sexy. More often than not, they are the Best Girl of their series.
1. Tionishia (Monster Musume / Everyday Life with Monster Girls)
Tionisha, known as Tio to her friends, is the ideal oni girl. She’s tall and powerful, but also gentle and loving. There’s also the fact that she has a well-rounded figure. Her height and strength might make her intimidating, but she’s more sexy than scary. She emits a warm aura about her that soothes even the most fiery of tempers.
Okayado began working on his monster girl-filled series on March 19th, 2012. Tokuma Shoten has released seventeen volumes thus far in the Monthly Comic Ryu magazine.
2. Mitsuki (My Wife is an Oni / Oniyome to Kekkon Shite Shimatta Kekka)
The oni Miyuki and the human Tomoyuki are childhood friends. Tomoyuki wanted to be Miyuki’s friend, but she was a tsundere even back then. Despite threatening pain and death, they became fast friends and later married. She’s still a major tsundere, but she loves him dearly, and he knows it. Miyuki becomes honest when her husband rubs her horns.
3. Nikka Kodovina (Oversized Sextet / Ishuzoku Kyoushoujo Sextet!)
We’ve discussed the Hecatoncheires Sarah Coquebert before, but now it’s the Best Girl’s time. Well, this manga has many compelling Best Girls, and the buff tan girl with four arms can’t be dismissed, but the osananajimi has her own charms. Nikka is a very tall, and thicc, oni. She’s had a crush on the main character Toru since they were younger. Years later, he hasn’t gotten much taller, but Nikka has shot up in size. She’s tall enough for him to look up her skirt, just by looking upwards. Nikka becomes visibly jealous whenever Toru gets closer to the other oni girls.
Amagaeru started writing and illustrating this series on June 25th, 2019. Mag Garden has published all five volumes in MAGCOMI.
4. Lum (Urusei Yatsura)
Lum is an oni alien, with one of the best normal attires in anime. She’s also prime waifu material. She’s a timeless waifu, having captured hearts over 40 years ago. Lum refuses to let go, and given how popular the new series is, we don’t want her to go. Lum first arrives on Earth and plays a game of tag (onigokko in Japanese) against Ataru Moroboshi. Ataru won, and declared that he would get married, which Lum happily took as a proposal. This was just the start of many misunderstandings.
The legendary mangaka Rumiko Takahashi created the original manga series between September 24th, 1978 and February 4th, 1987. Shogakukan published all 34 volumes in the pages of Weekly Shonen Sunday.
5. Tsutsuji (Onipan!)
Tsutsuji is the sunny and bright oni girl tasked with wearing the special oni panties. The oni panties allow these girls to take on human appearances to go on missions. She’s teamed with the cool Tsuyukusa and the boisterous Himawari to help mend the fractured relationship between oni and humans.
This original anime series was created by Norihiro Naganuma and animated by Wit Studio. It aired from April 11th, 2022 to July 1st, 2022 in twelve episodes consisting of 60 parts.
6. Nonko Arahabaki (Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs / Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san)
Nonko is the resident oni girl of the series. She’s a friendly drunk who works as a mangaka. As an oni, she’s incredibly powerful, and used to work as a famed monster slayer. That stopped when her own father ordered her assassination due to his fear of her. Nonko took stock of her life after she was saved.
Tadahiro Miura worked on the original manga series between February 8th, 2016 and June 8th, 2020. Shueisha has published all 24 volumes in Weekly Shonen Jump.
7. Rem (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- / Re:ZERO kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu)
Rem is not only the best maid, or the Best Girl, but she’s also the best oni girl. Both she and her older twin sister Ram were considered weak in their oni village, and were thus sentenced to be executed. Fortunately for them both, Ram displayed incredible power and they were spared. Margrave Roswaal L Mathers took them in after their village was destroyed, and taught them how to wield their power. Since then, Rem has become a dutiful and loyal maid.
Tappei Nagatsuki began publishing the novel version to Shosetsuka ni Naro on April 20th, 2012. Media Factory would gain the publishing rights later, and with illustrator Shin’ichiro Otsuka on the team, published the first light novel on January 24th, 2014. 34 volumes, as well as five side stories and eight short stories have since been published in the MF Bunko J imprint.
8. Lisa Alpacas (Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time)
Lisa is the princess of the ogre tribe. As such, she is a mighty combatant. Her drive for battle is rivaled only by her drive to bear Peter’s children. It’s her, and her sister’s, duty to bear strong children, and Peter Grill seems a worthy mate. Lisa doesn’t seem to mind that Peter is already with another woman. Maybe she’s pushing him towards the harem ending.
Joe has written extensive reviews of both Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time and Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time Super Extra. You’ll quickly see Lisa put her true weapons to use.
Daisuke Hiyama has been writing and illustrating the original manga series since August 25, 2017. Futabasha has since published twelve volumes in Monthly Action.
9. Shion (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime / Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken)
Shion is Rimuru’s First Secretary. Despite the mundane title, her skills lie more in combat than anything secretarial. It’s a good thing that she’s an oni girl of the Divine Fighter species then. Her cool, beautiful appearance belays her impulsive and air-headed nature. Shion is extremely loyal to Rimuru, and uses all of her skills for her leader’s benefit.
Fuse began writing Shion’s story on February 20, 2013. Mitz Vah was brought on to illustrate the series on May 30, 2014. Micro Magazine has since published twenty volumes and two extras in the GC Novels imprint.
10. Power (Chainsaw Man)
Power is another oni girl of high waifu quality. She has equal importance to the series as the title character himself. Power is a wild and strong character, proving her status as the Blood Fiend of the team. Despite their bickering, Power and Denji are as close as siblings.
Tatsuki Fujimoto began working on this original manga series on December 3rd, 2018. Shueisha has since released fifteen volumes in the Jump Comics imprint.
