One character archetype I like a lot is the tsundere (TSOON-deh-reh), a word which combines tsun tsun (meaning angry, grouchy) and dere dere (essentially “love-dovey”), and like many fans I enjoy the tension between the two opposing character traits. While the most famous tsundere characters are voiced by Rie Kugimiya, who provides the voices of Shana, Taiga Aisaka and Louise from Zero no Tsukaima, it’s fun to explore the “post-Kugimiya” characters like Anaru from AnoHana or the Mikoto from Index/Railgun and see how the genre evolves. I found myself captivated by the character of Kuroyukihime (Black Lotus) in the currently running anime series Accel World, the class vice-president who is calm, cool and elegant. This doesn’t stop her from getting jealous when the main character (unfortunately the dorkiest since Tetsuro from Galaxy Express 999) talks about his childhood friend Chiyuri. Kuroyukihime was interesting to me right off the bat because she speaks with male speech, which adds to her enigma and sexiness.
Accel World is an anime with a lame main character.
