I’ll start by just saying that this may be the first time I’ve ever rated an anime so high.
I was not expecting to come across such an amazing show this season. With shows like Darling in the FranXX, Overlord 2, and a few others taking the spotlight, I felt the need to talk about Yuru Camp (Laid-back Camp). Yuru Camp is wholesome, comfy, relaxing, and educational to an extent. It surprised me and that’s a good thing. Yuru Camp is the anime I didn’t know I wanted, and soon you will feel the same. It’s adapted by the manga of the same name, written by Afro.
First off, all the girls in the anime are cute. Contrary to how we are first introduced to her, we have the bubbly and energetic Nadeshiko Kagamihara. Her fun personality almost makes her the center of attention, but she doesn’t take the spotlight away from the other girls, and that’s important. The other girls are main characters as well so it’s good to see that one character isn’t outshining any of the others.
Rin Shima is the quiet and calm type of character — a perfect contrast to Nadeshiko. The two pair nicely together in a wonderful friendship that is personally a joy to watch. Rin enjoys camping alone, but when she meets Nadeshiko one day during a camping trip Rin slowly opens up to camping with her and the other girls.
Ena is the more personable character compared to her close friend Rin. Ena eventually joins the other girls on their camping trips but isn’t really seen much in the early episodes so far. Meanwhile, Aoi and Chiaki are in the Outdoor Activities Club. Nadeshiko meets them and joins their club which leads to everyone going on camping adventures. Aoi is the most laid-back character in the series compared to Rin who is more of the composed type. While Chiaki acts more expressive and leads the club.
While the five girls are interesting on their own, it’s fun to see them in groups or together. From the relaxing atmosphere to the interesting characters, the wholesome story and educational bits added in, I have to say Yuru Camp really doesn’t get anything wrong. I can’t find anything to complain about, and if I did it would be me nitpicking at something minuscule. So far each episode has revived me with a feeling of warmth and happiness. The OST is amazing and I want to get a hold of it whenever it releases. Some of the tracks are really soothing to both the mind and body. Even the opening and ending songs are a joy to listen to. The art style grows on you rather quickly as well, and I personally have come to appreciate the art direction the studio has taken. It has beautiful scenery that captivates you and it has reminded me of how beautiful the world can be.
If you’re looking for an anime to watch that is relaxing and enjoyable, then make no mistake, Yuru Camp is something 100% definitely worth checking out. Each episode just gets better than the last and I hope it continues that upward trend until the end of the last episode. I highly recommend this anime to anyone who enjoys slice-of-life shows. It’s cute girls going camping and it’s unexpectedly amazing. What else can I say?
