Japanese Artists Celebrate Pocky Day
November 11 has been celebrated in Japan as “Pocky Day” (and Pretz Day) ever since the Ezaki Glico company came up with this clever marketing idea in 1999, which has since gone into the Guiness Book for its success in realizing 1.8 million Twitter mentions in a 24 hour period back in 2012. While 11/11 a great excuse to munch on some delicious Japanese stick snacks, but because so many Japanese artists love to draw their favorite characters eating Pocky, it’s also a good day to celebrate amazing fanart. Let’s take a look at some of the best J-List could find for you!
Also: J-List is having a big sale through the end of Monday: 10% off all Japanese snacks! While you browse these images, why not visit our site and make an order? Click this link to visit our snack page, or click on any image.
You can depend on the Cinderella Girls to have Pocky with them.
This is a forgotten visual meme, called the Vertical Turtleneck Sweater, fore-runner to the Virgin Killer Sweater. I love how the lines show off the shape of her…eyes.
More Vertical Turtleneck Sweater art, from the Granblue Fantasy artist.
And more! Homura and Mami make a nice couple.
If you’re not familiar with the Iyanakao Sarenagara Pantsu wo Miseru artist — the fetish of “showing you her panties with a disgusted look on her face” — should see the doujinshi on our website.
Iori-chan, kawaii!
I would do the Pocky Game with Muto.
It’s dangerous to go alone. Take this! (Sadly that meme, while from the original Zelda, is unknown here in Japan.)
Naturally we had to end with Jojo.
