What would you do with a Tokyo bungalow? Give everybody else’s life problems a place to stay, apparently. Hirayasumi (ひらやすみ) brings that slice-of-life setup to a January 2027 premiere. Its real luxury is room for uncertainty and an adult lead who treats panic as optional.

Hirayasumi Makes Room for an Unhurried Life
Hiroto Ikuta is 29, works part-time, and has little interest in the milestones everyone expects him to chase. In Hirayasumi, his friendship with an elderly neighbor, Hanae Wada, leads to his inheriting her modest bungalow. Then his 18-year-old cousin Natsumi Kobayashi moves from Yamagata to Tokyo for art school.
She brings serious ambitions and private hopes of becoming a manga artist. He brings an outlook that makes tomorrow’s worries look negotiable. Hirayasumi lets those temperaments share a roof in Asagaya, a neighborhood in Tokyo’s Suginami Ward. Meanwhile, friends and neighbors widen the household’s orbit. The bungalow offers a welcoming place to settle into adult life at their own pace.
Production +h. Makes the Bungalow Feel Lived In
Meet the three lead voices of Hirayasumi, where friendship and an unconventional household make the small joys of daily life the main attraction.

- Yuuma Uchida — Hiroto Ikuta, the easygoing part-timer whose kindness earns him a home.

Hirayasumi adapts Keigo Shinzou’s Shogakukan manga, which had ten Japanese volumes available when its final two chapters were announced in October 2026. VIZ publishes the official English edition in print and digital formats. The manga’s soft linework and rounded character designs carry over into animation, along with the watercolor backgrounds of its cover art.
A Household Built From Everyday Connections
J-List readers who enjoy Yuru Camp’s relaxing atmosphere and warm friendships should feel at home with Hirayasumi. The appeal carries indoors: an unhurried routine gives people time to grow closer.
That domestic warmth also connects Hirayasumi with The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today, where a giant cat’s practical care helps his overworked owner get through the day. Ramen Akaneko brings similar comfort to the workplace, finding gentle comedy in keeping a cat-run noodle shop running. Hiroto’s household offers a human counterpart to those reassuring routines, with everyday company rather than feline antics.
Want that everyday warmth on your wall? J-List’s Yotsubato! — 2027 Anime Calendar makes a fitting companion to Hiroto’s household. Yotsuba’s delight in ordinary life suits the same appreciation for familiar company. A calendar can keep track of tomorrow without making it feel like a deadline.
Where and When to Watch Hirayasumi
Hirayasumi premieres on NHK General TV in January 2027. Exact dates, times, and international streaming partners haven’t been announced yet.
Room to Breathe: Hirayasumi looks like a welcoming address for gentle comedy and adult slice-of-life storytelling. Its bungalow makes room for ambition without demanding everyone move at the same speed.
