Let’s follow up one girls-with-guns anime with another! This one is more comedic and light-hearted, with a surprising number of imaginary animals. Also, there’s no yuri as far as I can tell. We could all use a good laugh, and this office worker finds nothing but laughter when she stumbles into the field of contract killing. Let’s see how this natural-born killer office worker can get the job done in this Happy Kanako’s Killer Life (Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu) anime adaptation.

Happy Kanako’s Killer Life News, Cast, Staff
The newly hired killer and her two colleagues are as follows:

- Kanako Nishino — Hana Tamegai (Risa Matoba from The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls). Kanako is a former office worker with a natural talent for murder.
- Sakurai — Ryota Suzuki (Third One for All from My Hero Academia). Sakurai is a pro assassin and Kanako’s senior.
- Assassin Company President — Junichi Suwabe (Ryomen Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen). The company president is Kanako’s new boss.
Kanako will begin her new job sometime in April 2027. Studio Drive is producing the anime adaptation, with Shinji Takamatsu directing and writing, and Yoshiyuki Okubo designing the characters.
Happy Kanako’s Killer Life has an official website, a Twitter (X) account, and a TikTok account with more information about the series and the key visuals.

The setup here is brilliant. Kanako quits her office job because her boss harasses her to no end. Her first choice for a new job requires no prior experience: an assassination company. She had no idea at the time, and she didn’t even consider it. Kanako accidentally pulled the trigger when she saw that her first target was her former boss. She was a shoo-in after that.

Kanako doesn’t really change much, even after becoming an assassin. She’s still silly and makes animal name puns such as “nope nope nope lop-eared rabbit” and “envious shisa.” She’s a dork who still watches Super Sentai, and she’s Best Girl. Her “work mode” mindset makes her ruthless and efficient when taking down contract targets. Or molesters and rude convenience store customers. She’s doing the Lord’s work, even if it’s illegal and for profit.
A Closer Look at Happy Kanako’s Killer Life
Happy Kanako’s Killer Life manga summary:
Work can be murder. Kanako Nishino has finally had enough and quit her crummy advertising job, only for the first new application she puts in to turn out to be for a crew of hitmen. Even more surprising, Kanako’s got a natural talent for the job and they’d love to have her. Satisfying employment can be hard to find, but Kanako has to wonder if it’s worth taking when the actual job is so extreme. And that’s to say nothing of how she feels as she comes to realize she might actually enjoy bumping people off than she previously expected.
Toshiya Wakabayashi released the original Happy Kanako’s Killer Life manga series on April 26th, 2019. Seikaisha published nine volumes in Saizensen. DMM TV’s live-action adaptation premiered on February 28th, 2025.
