The middle third of a comedic anime season is often the most satisfying. Why? Because we know the characters’ traits and foibles, we’ve become familiar with the show’s humor setup, and the plot has slotted into a low-stakes groove. Yowayowa Sensei passed through its dramatic set piece of the school camping trip. So now we can play around with the story elements that deliver laughs and show us fan service. But even vanilla ice cream can get boring without sprinkles and toppings. Let’s explore how the last few seconds of Episode 5 refresh the audience’s attention.

Serial Comedies and Midseason Momentum
Yowayowa Sensei presses the right buttons at the season midpoint: Hiyori-sensei’s weakness to social pressure and Akihito’s must-protecc instincts converting him into the soft landing for her dojikko-moe-lucky-sukebe antics. Episode 5 turns those familiar pieces into enjoyable vignettes using tried-and-true ecchi settings. Of course, the real joke is how everyone around her can predict the incoming chaos rather than Hiyori-sensei’s inevitable state of undress.
The Yowayowa Sensei anime has reached a comfortable point. We have supporting characters who can also provide escalating chaotic humor and naked fan service. Their oddball traits can collide with Hiyori-sensei’s physical and psychological weaknesses. However, a comedy can only rehash the same joke, using the same characters’ personalities, for a limited time before growing stale. Serials offer a solution to this predictable outcome. Introduce a new character!
The Polaroid-snapping student at the end of Yowayowa Sensei, Episode 5, features in the end credits as the “Kowa Kowa” character. Kaya Kuguri is the expected shakeup for a comedy in its comfort zone. What quirks will she bring to put Hiyori-sensei in compromising situations with Akihito? I’m curious to find out!
The Lucky-Sukebe Tsukkomi of Yowayowa Sensei
Yowayowa Sensei is on course to branch out into different comedic directions with a new character. But one element will still provide the sturdy roots: Akihito. The straight man to Hiyori-sensei’s dojikko-moe antics serves as the audience’s explainer and noticer of the sometimes subtle variations of the “weakness” joke. That part of his role will land a larger presence during the introduction phase of Kaya Kuguri to the Must-Protecc Crew. What an enviable position! He is the audience’s spirit animal when a face plant in this anime means plump cheeks smothering a young man’s airways. We salute you for your service and for enduring your sister’s overbearing presence.
Yowayowa Sensei Makes Me Say Heh.
Akihito still basks in the afterglow of a successful school camping trip. What’s his reward? A date with Hiyori-sensei! Well, his older sister forced him to go on a shopping trip with the girls. What are they buying? “Nothing important,” claims the weak-at-lying schoolteacher. It’s the shopping-for-swimsuits-and-lingerie episode for Yowayowa Sensei! Why did Hiyori-sensei need Akemi’s help to buy clothes? Because the elder Abikura sibling could drive her to the next town over to avoid students. But, uh, there’s one student right there!
Ohohoho! Akemi discovered Hiyori-sensei’s fancy underwear! Hiyo-chan, why is there a hole where? Where is the hole!? And why is Hiyori-sensei so exhausted after trying on one swimsuit? Akemi is a touchy-feely big sister! Head pats for cutesy designs! Okay, sure, but Hiyo-chan is an adult, so how about a more mature design? Don’t trust Akemi! That red slingshot monokini is for mature audiences only. Like the one watching Yowayowa Sensei?
Uh oh. Akemi drove Hiyori to the mall in the next town over to avoid students, so why are Mizuki and her classmate shopping for swimsuits here? For the 30 percent off sale? No problem for Akemi. Time for the hidden sex in a fitting room scenario! Har. Mizuki almost recognized Akemi because she looked like Akihito. Crisis averted. Next shop — no boys allowed! It didn’t look like a lingerie store to me.
Yowayowa Sensei — Fan Service Is a Teaching Moment
Back home, Akemi insists Hiyo-chan tutor Akihito for his final exams while she makes dinner. Why is Hiyori-sensei still nervous around Akihito? Teaching brightens her mood, though. Akihito aced his review exercises, so he needs a reward. Oh, what nonsense did Akemi fill Hiyori-sensei’s head with? Lap pillow! With a baby rattle? We peered into Akemi’s brocon mind. Ah. Safer ground. Hiyori was nervous about Akihito joining their shopping trip because she had bought a present for her class president. But the real present? Head pats! And a lucky-sukebe moment, of course. Keikakudoori for Akemi!
The Yowayowa Sensei intermission cards display the fan service moments for this episode. Can we fast-forward to Hiyori-sensei’s school swimsuit scene?
Confirmation — Kowakowa-sensei has become “Hiwamura-sensei.” But Weak-Wimpy-sensei’s social anxiety drags her back to the Spooky-Scary column. Two steps forward and one step backward is still one step forward! Meanwhile, Mizuki and Yuuki should have joined Akihito and Hiyori-sensei for tutoring. The Strong and Sturdy Gal is quick to shore up her confidence after a few words from Hiyorin, but will it be that easy to pass a makeup test? Yuuki claims she’ll remember things if Hiyori-sensei wears a microkini. Eh… I’ll allow it!
Yowayowa Sensei checks off the body writing hentai tag! Yuuki will be a J-List customer when she grows up. The flesh was “willing,” but the spirit was weak. Somehow, that traumatic body writing worked for Mizuki! Uh oh. How about writing on Yuuki, too? Microkinis for everyone! Not you, Akihito. Mizuki claims a boy needs to write on her body to make it more embarrassing. Akihito should practice his penmanship! The tutoring techniques work on Mizuki’s memory. What about Yuuki, though? Good, too! The special students passed their makeup exams.
Weak Against Stretching — Yowayowa Sensei and Swimsuit Fabric
Next vignette — a kidnapping? No. Hiyori-sensei dropped her hairpin while changing to use the school’s swimming pool. And she’s still using her high school swimsuit! I’m sure she filled out even more five years after she graduated. She should have bought a functional one-piece when she went shopping with the Abikura siblings. We saw how well her jump-roping practice went in Yowayowa Sensei, Episode 1, so we’re in store for fun fetish stuff here! Dojikko-moe-lucky-sukebe appetizer! Hiyori-sensei explains that she wants to improve her swimming skills to rescue students in emergencies. She should have a spotter herself, though. The bikini she bought is for the beach, and her high school gym swimsuit still fits, so here we are. Stretching the truth, there. Literally!
Is it indecent for an adult to wear a high school swimsuit? It’s a fetish item for a reason. Yowayowa Sensei doubles down on indecency. Helping an adult stretch in sexy poses while wearing a high school swimsuit is indecent! Armpit and sideboob fans, rejoice! Yes, she’s still too weak for warm-up exercises. So, what is Hiyori-sensei’s swimming weakness? She can’t float! Even with two flotation devices strapped to her chest? How is this possible? Ah. She only needed to relax on her back. But Hiyori-sensei’s swimsuit did not survive the trauma.
Uh oh. Another person will join the Weak and Wimpy fan club.
