Circumstances postponed her most recent visit, leaving her apprentice, the kuudere beauty Shiragiku, to look after Shotaro as the strongest stepmother. She’s a spy with no real-world knowledge, which leads to unintentional ecchi moments. Skinship and assassination attempts will keep Shotaro’s normally boring life exciting. Let’s review Shiragiku’s implementation of her new mother manual in the stepmother harem manga series Haha no Ai wa Mama Naranai! (My Stepmother’s Love isn’t Going How I Thought!).

Homina Mia released the Haha no Ai wa Mama Naranai! manga series on December 18th, 2025. Shueisha has since published one volume in Ultra Jump.
The Stepmotherly Tales of Haha no Ai wa Mama Naranai!
This story of spies and stepmothers needs more romance, in my not-so-humble opinion. Asako Kuzukake may be a strict grandmother, but she genuinely loves her grandson enough to send three bombshell spies with superhuman abilities to protect him from rival agents. She’d be a 10/10 grandmother if she sent them to “make him a man.” Hey, she might want great-grandchildren sooner rather than later.
Shotaro remained ignorant of his family’s spycraft heritage. Asako’s apprentices, Shiragiku, Kaine, and Kurumi, tell him the truth and inform him that he’s to be Asako’s successor and lead the agency. Unfortunately for him, not everyone’s happy with Asako’s decision, and many spies are now after his life. This gives these girls plenty of excuses to get dangerously close to their charge.
The Spies (Who Loved Me) of Haha no Ai wa Mama Naranai!
We’ll focus on two of the three spies for now, since the third only recently showed up.
Shiragiku ticks two rare boxes: she’s a silver-haired girl and a kuudere. We don’t get too many of these character archetypes anymore. She easily takes the Best Girl role, and not only because she showed up first. Shiragiku was raised to be a peerless spy. She has no concept of a normal family to fall back on, which makes her cute attempts at bonding all the more meaningful. Her attempts include lots of cuddling and skinship, where she is comfortable enough to show off her scarred, stunning figure.
Kaine is the second spy waifu to show up, and she’s Shiragiku’s polar opposite, with shorter hair (and shorts). Beyond that, Kaine is a free-spirited girl who really wants to bond with Shotaro. Day one (like Shiragiku), she immediately strips and pushes Shotaro’s face into her cleavage. They’re similar in the ways that matter. They fight, but they still care about him. Now, if only Shotaro could seal the deal and not do the typical “harem protagonist shies from intimacy” thing, he’d earn that harem category.
The Classified Art of Haha no Ai wa Mama Naranai!
The above images are stellar examples of these stunning spies X waifus. Look at Shiragiku and her Cammy-style high kicks! They show off how much one person can draw with one hand. And I’m grateful Homina Mia likes to tear her stockings up. I also weirdly like how tired she looks. It shows she’s outside her dangerous and stressful spy world, and it’s special whenever she’s switched on again.
Kaine is the source of more overt fanservice, given how she dresses most of the time: a tight t-shirt and short shorts the size of panties. I can’t tell if Kaine or Shiragiku has a bigger bust, but Kaine is the first to show off for Shotaro, so she’ll take an early lead until we get a definitive answer. Kaine seems to be more at ease in the regular world, even if she still stands out with her wild antics and attire choices. All said, this series has little lewdity but plenty of ecchi moments.
A Stepmotherly Conclusion
Stepmother romance series are few, so we cultured otaku must support them when we can. The ecchi scenes are great, and the story itself is engaging enough to follow. It’s still early in the series, and I hope we’ll see Shotaro train up and earn the “romance” and “harem” categories. Get to it.
The action-filled story of spies and assassins, and the lewd spy stepmothers have put this series firmly on my “please god update faster” list. It was easy to give a covert 5/5 on the Megumi rating scale. I bump it to 10 if Shotaro does what he needs to do.
