Cinderella is a timeless fable with thousands of variants that stretch way back to 7 BC. Miya Nakamura’s mother was a nobleman’s mistress. After her passing, Miya moves in with the main family. She expects her new sisters and mother to treat her as a servant, but they’re happy to dote on her. We’ll see how she gets along with her new family when My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren’t Wicked (Ibitte Konai Gibo to Gishi) premieres sometime in July 2026.

Even if They Look Mean, My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren’t Wicked
Miya Nakamura’s mother was a poor concubine. They lived in relative squalor in a rotting house and slept on a futon that was too small for two people. Her mother eventually died, leaving her an orphan. Her father’s wife and daughters eventually take Miya into the main family. She expects nothing but cruel treatment, insults, and forced servitude. Instead, they welcome her with open arms and dote on her at every opportunity.

Miya’s new family has particularly scary and cruel expressions. However, their actions shine through almost immediately. Her new sisters insist that she call them sisters, and her stepmother would rather she call them “mommy.” They bathe her, give her new clothes, and set aside a room for her. All this, and they keep her diet in mind, so she grows accustomed to good food. They even give her a new fluffy puppy to play with. She’s not the new Cinderella after all.
