Makina-san's a Love Bot?!, Episode 9 — Bang Before You Kiss

If you’ve never had to tell your sort-of girlfriend to calm down because she’s being mean to the loli in your room, you’re one of God’s favorites. Don’t fool yourself. Even if you’re 6′, a 5′ girl will put you down if she’s mad enough. But before we get into Makina-san a Love Bot?!, episode 9 — the Lone Star State is up to shenanigans. Seriously, though, telling your sorta-girlfriend to leave the loli alone is like telling a Love Live! fan that the seiyuus can date. Everything about that scenario will bring you strife. Unfortunately, this is the conundrum Eita lives with.

Makina-san a Love Bot?!, Episode 9 — What, What in the Butt?

Imaizumi-san may bring all the gals to his house, but Eita brings the high-spec AIs. Let me tell you why that’s significantly better. As I write this, it’s 110°, and I can see a wildfire cresting over the hill that leads to my town. I’m a germaphobe. I dislike being unclean. This heat would make getting laid an unpleasant scenario. But if I had two high-spec AI robots that don’t sweat … Yeah, boy!

But Eita is a man of class. He wants to give his robot roomies his love, not his dick. You’d think that makes things easier, but life is never so accommodating. Makina and Mimika are like My Hero Academia shippers. When they see each other, it’s a throwdown. I have the humor of a twelve-year-old, so this constant bickering amuses me — others may not be as partial to it.

Despite the constant aggression, Eita and the gang continue their daily lives as if nothing’s changed. Makina is still slipping on bananas, Mamimi is still shoving things up Eita’s butt, and Ooya-san is dealing with sound violations.

Perks to Makina-san a Love Bot?!, episode 9 for putting Mimika in a kawaii pajama and giving Makina some lingerie (a word I’ve never been able to spell), but that’s about it.

No Sex, No Kiss

Mimika was the voice of reason in this episode. She so eloquently voiced what all of us have been thinking throughout Kakushite! Makina-san!!, “Why haven’t Eita and Makina banged?”

While most people would read that and agree, it makes my mind tremble. Does intimacy with a high-spec AI robot count as sex, or is it similar to using a sex toy? That may sound like a straightforward question. But mull it over. The only difference between a person and a realistic sex doll is our consciousness. If someone made a homunculus without a soul, would it be human? How would sex with one of those work? If you slept with one, does it count as sex? This may sound like an unnecessary tangent, but if Eita shags Makina, does it count as sex?

Philosophical thinking aside, we can’t deny that in Makina-san a Love Bot?!, episode 9, Mimika is making a move while Makina is …

Makina is … She’s … She’s … crying about Mimika smooching Eita. So, to compensate for her lack of development, Makina tries to force a kiss on Eita. But the poor lass is still a maiden, so she can’t bring herself to lock lips unless they lock hips. That’s a sentiment I agree with.

Overall Thoughts

Makina-san a Love Bot?! has been one of the most consistent shows of the season. There were a few shows I was initially delighted by that have faltered since they began in April. That’s not a lament I have with this show.

Kakushite! Makina-san!! is one of those rare titles where everything, from the soundtrack to the characters, demands that I give full points. To reiterate my sole complaint, there’s no way this show will have a proper wrap-up. Even Eita realized that something odd was happening due to meeting two AI bots crafted for espionage. From the ED, we know that Alma Sakimori (the oppai soldier girl/engineer) plays an important role. But she’d been (mostly) absent.

I’ve seen this show get a lot of hate for its “disjointed plot and lack of character growth,” but I don’t see it that way. If you could turn an average person’s life into an anime, it would mirror this. You often don’t get the desired growth and resolution you chase. I appreciate a show that depicts this uncomfortable fact.
